Op shops, short for opportunity shops, are a popular choice for many Australians looking for unique and affordable clothing, furniture, and household items. Whether you are a savvy shopper or a first-time visitor to an op shop, here are some tips to help you make the most of your experience:

1. Research the shops nearby: Before heading out, take some time to research the op shops in your area. Find out their locations, opening hours, and any specific items they may specialize in. This will help you plan your trip more efficiently.

2. Bring cash or card: Op shops usually accept both cash and card payments. Make sure to have some cash on hand just in case the shop has a minimum card payment limit or their card machine is not working.

3. Arrive early for the best finds: Op shops often put out new stock in the morning, so arriving early will give you a better chance of finding unique and sought-after items. Keep in mind that weekends tend to be busier, so if you prefer a quieter shopping experience, weekdays may be a better option.

4. Take your time and browse through all sections: Op shops can have a vast range of items, from clothing and accessories to books, homeware, and electronics. Take your time to explore all sections and you might stumble upon unexpected treasures.

5. Inspect items thoroughly before purchasing: Since op shop items are usually pre-loved, it’s important to inspect them carefully before buying. Look for any damages, stains, or missing parts to ensure you are getting a good quality item.

6. Look out for any sales or discounts: Op shops often have sales or offer discounts on certain days or for specific items. Keep an eye out for any signs or ask the staff if there are any ongoing promotions that you can take advantage of.

7. Donate to the shop if you can: If you have items that are in good condition but no longer needed, consider donating them to the op shop. This helps support their cause and provides more options for other shoppers.

8. Be friendly and engage with the staff: The staff at op shops are usually volunteers and they can provide valuable information or assistance. Be friendly, have a chat, and build a positive connection with them.

9. Have an idea of what you are looking for: While it’s fun to browse and discover unexpected items, having a general idea of what you are looking for can help narrow down your search. This could be a specific clothing item, furniture piece, or home decor item.

10. Be open to unexpected treasures: Op shops are known for their hidden gems and unique finds. Keep an open mind, as you may come across items that you never knew you needed or wanted.

By following these tips, your first op shop experience in Australia is sure to be a memorable one. Enjoy the thrill of finding budget-friendly items while supporting a good cause!

I dropped a large volume of high quality products at the store. The staff at the back pointed and said put it there. No good morning, no hello, no thank you. Taking my next lot somewhere else.

This place has been really good in the past, and apart from a disagreement once about a return I have never had any real problem here over the last six years. Until this morning (14/07/22). I went there about 10am and saw a temp worker who I have encountered at other Good Sammy stores; she is generally very disrespectful and encourages other staff to be likewise. When a customer comes to the Good Sammy store the staff should not ridicule and laugh at them. I visit some op shops as a form of practical exercise. I noted three women there (at Morley Good Sammy) when I entered: 1, Amanda, the manager. 2. a dark haired woman; and 3. the rude temp woman. I think her name begins with A. She has lightish hair and is about 5’4′ tall. I rarely see her at Morley. This obnoxious temp woman has taken it upon herself to promote hate and social stigma. She was treated respectfully and yet she activiely encourages others (wherever she is temping) to behave in a manner that is very disrespectul. I have seen her behaving the same with other customers. I used to record every time that I went into these kind of op shops, and unfortunately I will have to start doing that again. Honestly, I think that the new manager at Morley is not as good as past managers, and so the standards of the store might be slipping. That includes the placement of stock where people can trip over them. I don’t get any problems with staff when I go to Subiaco, Fremantle, Cannington, Gosnells, Willetton, or Malaga so I know that Good Sammy stores are mostly very well staffed and managed. But that women who temps around at the different Good Sammy stores is a really nasty piece of work (I wrote a review concerning her behaviour before – when she was temping at Good Sammy Inglewood.). I rate it “2” because the people who work there on the weekend are really good people.

Not a nice shopping experience,,I have been to this store many times over the years ,but today was not good, the two woman on were actually rude and were talking about people in the store,I heard what they were saying but just kept on looking at the clothes which are old with holes, rips, shoes are dirty some still had dirt on the bottom soles, the section down the end where the furniture and glass ware is dirty and very untidyyou expect people to pay for the rubbish you sell it’s a joke,it’s one of the worst sammys I’ve been to and it’s getting worse,mt Lawley is cleaning travel from now on and go there,

I’ve visited a few times and its always been clean and organised. Things are easy to find and navigating the store is comfortable (it isn’t too packed) The staff are helpful and friendly, they truly care for thier costumers and for the store. The manager Gemma is a lovely, bubbly person and it honestly a pleasure to be around.

I highly recommend this store, they have a constant new supplies and a good amount of furniture available ?

Not my favourite Good Sammy’s by a ling shot, but store was neat. Racks were a little over filled. Parking was easy and lady that served me was genuine and nice. Had a decent amount of furniture and a number of books, on the smaller size in terms of good Sammy shop floors but good variety. Would stop in again if I was in the area but probably wouldn’t drive out of my way to visit

  1. Gone are the days you get a bargain from these stores….. Well this store anyway. I have been to a few Salvation Army stores and none of the price their items as high as this store. Most have a $3 scarf box. These were a min of $8+. Cheaper to go get one brand new at Kmart. Furniture was just as ridiculous being a tallboy $180+. Even kids clothes cheaper brand new at a store. Ridiculous…

  2. It seems like Salvos Morley has joined in the insanity. Prices are so high that I’m sure, people who are not well off, could not afford to buy anything. One vase I spotted was $700. I’m not joking. Plates in the bric a brac are priced higher than what they originally cost at KMart. It’s a shame because these op shops have forgotten their original mandate; to help the poor.
