How to Donate to an Op Shop in Australia
If you have items that you no longer need or want, donating them to an op shop (also known as a thrift store) in Australia is a great way to give back to your community and help those in need. Whether it’s clothing, furniture, electronics, or household items, there are a few simple steps you can follow to donate to an op shop:
- Step 1: Choose a charity or op shop to donate to. There are numerous charities and op shops in Australia, so choose one that aligns with your values and supports causes you care about.
- Step 2: Check the op shop’s donation guidelines. Different op shops have different rules and restrictions on what they accept. Make sure to check their website or contact them directly to find out what items they are currently accepting.
- Step 3: Clean and sort your items. Before donating, take the time to clean and organize your items. This will make it easier for the op shop to process and sell them.
- Step 4: Pack your items in bags or boxes. Place your items in bags or boxes that are easy to carry and transport.
- Step 5: Take your donation to the op shop. Visit the op shop during their opening hours and drop off your donation. Some op shops may offer a curbside donation drop-off service, so check if this option is available.
By following these steps, you can easily donate your items to an op shop in Australia and make a positive impact in your community.

2 years agoFirst time that I have been in the Salvos Store Traralgon but it will not be the last. The staff were so friendly and helpful which was fantastic. Plus the variety of stock was fabulous – and yes I came away with a bargain ‼️a year agoSalvos have been in the process of upscaling their stores to make them less “trash and treasure” and more like a *proper* store. I kind of miss the old style, but I can appreciate what they’re doing here – the stock’s well curated, the shop is very well presented, they offer a bunch of new and interesting items (such as confectionery) and the staff are kind and helpful. I like going through their collection of media and books! And the location is pretty good, it’s located right next to the main road through town so it’s not hard to find.a year agoPlenty of range, not as big as the Viinnies down the road but better stuff I reckon. There was heaps of well ordered clothes, kids clothes, toys, books and bric a brac. Not a huge amount of furniture but what furniture they did have was really cool. Got some smick stuff from here. Location really convenient just off the main road.a year agoAbsolute rip off. They’re more expensive for furniture than fantastic and Kmart. Crazy prices on everything, marked up and too expensive for an op shop.a year agoAbsolutely ridiculous pricing so expensive given they are all donated items and they want top dollar for stuff. They have anko top from kmart they want more for them that an kmart brand new it ridiculous.

4 months agoThe ladies at the counter were absolutely wonderful! I really enjoyed rummaging around and found some great items. We managed to visit on a sale day, lots of bargains!7 months agoThis opportunity shop was very busy when we were there as all clothing was 50% off. Very friendly staff who were very happy and laughing. Lots of things to choose from as there was a large variety of items.4 weeks agoFantastic little shop full of lovely staff ! Have a nice day !9 months agoThe staff were nice and welcoming, there was tons of good quality clothes plus some kooky stuff too which was great ??a year agoA good little op shop that’s been here for decades. Has a good selection of knick-knacks and clothing, and isn’t overly curated like a lot of other thrift stores are starting to do. It’s also located in the town centre and close to parking, so you can pop in while out doing errands. One of the places I try to go regularly.

Fine vinnies. Easy to get to off the main road through Traralgon and decent amount of parking. The staff weren’t very warm and friendly but the range was ok. Got a few cool things. Heaps of clothes and reasonable amount of bric a brac and books but not much furniture.
This store has a massive arrange of womans clothing but not many mens cloths. Its also has books, toys, shoes, furniture, household items and many more. This is my favourite op shop in the area.
Great service and prices, they also have a huge selection of products.
Shocked today with one of the members of staff so rude to myself and family she did apologies for being “grumpy” but even so no need for this behaviour won’t be returning to this store
Don’t go there! Woman serving took a dress, which I had picked off the rack unpriced, out back to price, taking a long time to simply price a faded dress, then pricing it above the rest on the rack, claiming it was worth $200! Then, housing me as to where I had put the dress, after having tried it on,also saying someone wants it,which was probably her!!!!!so,she overpriced it because she actually wanted it herself
