The Gold Coast, often referred to by its initials G.C., and officially the City of Gold Coast, is a city in Queensland, Australia. It is Australia’s sixth-largest city, the most populous non-capital city, and the state's second-largest city after Brisbane, with a population over 600,000. The Gold Coast is a coastal city and region located approximately 66 kilometres (41 mi) south-southeast of the centre of the state capital, Brisbane. The city's central business district is located roughly in the centre of the Gold Coast in the suburb of Southport. The urban area of the Gold Coast is concentrated along the coast, sprawling almost 60 kilometres, joining up with the Greater Brisbane metropolitan region to the north and to the state border with New South Wales to the south. Nicknames of the city include the ‘Glitter Strip’ and the ‘Goldy’. The demonym of a Gold Coast resident is Gold Coaster.
The area that became the Gold Coast was originally inhabited by the indigenous Yugambeh people. The city grew from a collection of small townships, the earliest being Nerang in 1865. From the 1920s onwards, tourism led to significant economic growth in the region, and by 1959 the Gold Coast was declared a city, with its first skyscraper being built in 1960. The Gold Coast boomed from the 1980s onwards with skyscraper construction. This era was defined by the city's ‘white-shoe brigade' developers, neon lights, and organised crime, particularly the yakuza and the Russian mafia. The late 20th century saw the city's tourism diversify with theme park openings, and in the early 21st century became an international destination for film production.
The Gold Coast has a diverse economy with strengths in health, tourism, arts and culture, and construction, with a GDP of $40.9 billion. The city ranks highly as one of the country's cultural and creative hotspots, alongside content creators, a growing video games industry, and leads Australia in startups per capita.
The Gold Coast is central to the nation's entertainment industry with a major film and television production industry, leading to the city's metonym of Goldywood. The Gold Coast is also host of the AACTA Awards and the Gold Coast Film Festival.
The Gold Coast is a major tourist destination with a sunny, subtropical climate and has become widely known for its surfing beaches (such as Surfers Paradise), high-rise dominated skyline, theme parks, nightlife, and rainforest hinterland.

Surfers Paradise Beach is a captivating coastal haven that seamlessly blends natural beauty with a vibrant atmosphere. The golden sands stretch for miles, providing the ideal canvas for sun-seekers and water enthusiasts alike. The azure waters are inviting, offering a refreshing escape from the hustle and bustle.

What sets this beach apart is its dynamic ambiance. From early morning joggers to sunset strollers, the beach accommodates a diverse crowd. Surfers catching waves add an exciting energy to the scene, creating a spectacle for onlookers. The beach’s proximity to a variety of shops, cafes, and entertainment options adds convenience and enhances the overall experience.

During peak times, the beach can get quite busy, but the lively atmosphere is part of its charm. Families, friends, and solo travelers coexist, creating a social tapestry that contributes to the beach’s allure.

While the amenities are well-maintained, occasional crowdedness can be a downside for those seeking a quieter retreat. Despite this, Surfers Paradise Beach remains a must-visit destination on the Gold Coast, offering a picturesque backdrop for memorable moments and a quintessential Australian beach experience.

One of the best beaches in QLD.. even though finding a parking spot is hard during peak hours the beach accessibility is great. Lot of shops across the beach and walkways for nice evening walk. Need to be careful while walking because it’s a shared walkway..public shower facilities are available near to beach.. night views are really good as well….

Beautiful beach with exceptional views, lots to see and do around it with a number of restaurants and attractions nearby. Definitely would recommend catching the light rail if you’re coming south from Brisbane and the region.

Really nice beach, very big, so many areas to swim between the flags. The beach is shallow, and you have to go out quite far before you can’t reach the bottom. Clean water as well. Sand is really soft and it’s great for making sand castles and other sculptures.

  1. Think lots of locals & backpackers love this beach. It’s too busy for my liking. Today early evening, it was lightly raining. Great views to surfers. Really awesome seeing kites.

  2. 5 stars not only for the beautiful view, but also for the wonderful people here always smile to strangers and open minded.
PS: No creepy staring like what I experienced in Sydney, respectful and friendly environment.

  3. One of the best and least crowded surfing spots, which also features a very family friendly patrolled beach. The Kiosk is the choice for getting a coffee here. For surfing the point works well and is especially protected in high southerly wind conditions. The paddle out can be a little long, if you’re confident with a rock entry, you can make your way up the heads – don’t slip!
