Nice museum. Not huge, but the exhibits are well presented, and looked after.
When we visited there was an animatronic dinosaur exhibition upstairs, which was excellent, but this isn’t a permanent fixture.
Possibly a bit pricey at $16 per person.
Some sections ( 1st floor ) were under renovation
14 $ for two tickets is bit steep for what’s on offer .
However , keeping cost aside , it’s still got some interesting stuff to see . Attached cafe with inside and outside seating.
A small curio shopping section .
An interesting and informative Museum. I was taken on a historical journey with lots of little exhibits explaining the constantly changing face and culture of Nelson. I read and look at everything on display so I was entertained for well over 2 hours, and could have taken more time for contemplation if it were available to me.
The day I went, the embroiders guild had opened up an exhibition in the upstairs foyer which was rich in colour and texture. Some of the guild members were onsite and wonderful to chat with. Voting for my favourite piece was not easy, so much talent was on display.
Also, an exhibition of Women in Gaming. Technology has changed the way we interact and women have played a stronger part in that industry than most realise. Some very inspiring stories and advancements to see.
Overall, the museum is a great place for young and old, travellers and locals. Spend as much or little time as you like, come out feeling enriched. Don’t miss the shop, it showcases local artists and manufacturers.
This museum was packed with information about European and Māori history in Nelson, with many interesting curios and displays. Upstairs, an exhibition on NZ + AUS women in coding was on, and you could try all the video games featured! A small but fun place to learn a bit of Nelson’s history.
New interesting display of comedy animal antics upstairs. Ground floor standing display of local history including artefacts. Friendly and helpful front counter staff and a small shop of memorabilia to buy. Cool place to go on a hot day or to head indoors on a rainy day.
