Hamilton: An American Musical is a sung-and-rapped-through biographical musical with music, lyrics, and a book by Lin-Manuel Miranda. Based on the 2004 biography Alexander Hamilton by Ron Chernow, the musical covers the life of American Founding Father Alexander Hamilton and his involvement in the American Revolution and the political history of the early United States. Composed over a seven-year period from 2008 to 2015, the music draws heavily from hip hop, as well as R&B, pop, soul, and traditional-style show tunes. It casts non-white actors as the Founding Fathers of the United States and other historical figures. Miranda described Hamilton as about "America then, as told by America now."From its opening, Hamilton received near-universal acclaim. It premiered Off-Broadway on February 17, 2015, at the Public Theater in Lower Manhattan, with Miranda playing the role of Alexander Hamilton, where its several-month engagement was sold out. The musical won eight Drama Desk Awards, including Outstanding Musical. It then transferred to the Richard Rodgers Theatre on Broadway, opening on August 6, 2015, where it received uniformly positive reviews and high box office sales. At the 70th Tony Awards, Hamilton received a record-breaking 16 nominations and won 11 awards, including Best Musical. It received the 2016 Pulitzer Prize for Drama. A filmed version of the Broadway production was released in 2020 on Disney+.
The Chicago production of Hamilton began preview performances at the CIBC Theatre in September 2016 and opened the following month. The West End production opened at the Victoria Palace Theatre in London on December 21, 2017, following previews from December 6 and winning seven Olivier Awards in 2018, including Best New Musical. The first U.S. national tour began in March 2017. A second U.S. tour opened in February 2018. Hamilton's third U.S. tour began January 11, 2019, with a three-week engagement in Puerto Rico in which Miranda returned to the role of Hamilton. The first non-English production opened in Hamburg in October 2022 for which it had been translated into German. No amateur or professional licenses have been granted for Hamilton.

Seats are so narrow. I am not a large person but I was not comfortable and felt like the person next to me was touching me the whole time. Paid $30 for the tickets which is a rip off and $8 for a small can of drink. And the movie was way too loud. Overall I will not be going back.

We went for the aircon because it was a sweltering hot day in the Tron. We bought tickets and made our way to the theater. Challenge #1 since it isn’t really clear, we wandered around for a bit before figuring it out, lol. There was nobody to collect our tickets, and the door to the theater was shut, so we weren’t sure if we could just let ourselves in. The theater is average, but it was clean. As a side, it was also the first screening of the day. Seats are also average. Narrow and definitely not made for the comfort of the more generously sized person. The volume was so loud that my ears were still ringing an hour later. Overall experience was poor. I’d give zero stats if I could. Readings theatres are a much better option. I’ll never do HOYTS again – Te Awa or anywhere else. And I would certainly not bother upgrading to a Lux when you can have the same experience for less at Readings or Lighthouse. DON’T DO IT

Went Lux Cinema OMG amazing experience. Such an extravagant way to experience going to see a movie. Saw Avatar 3D. We sat in big lazy boy sitting that vibrated with sound, Adult drinks available. Ordered hot food before the movie that was bought in half way through the movie very yummy. Got a complimentary soft drink and popcorn. What you pay is definitely worth every cent. Won’t go back to the cheap seats.

Great place to enjoy new releases, seats are a little snug for plus size people but if you want comfort go lux. Lux is a little pricey but hey you pay for the luxury of a recliner and ample space.

  1. I went to watch The Ballad of Song Birds and Snakes this week and the service from everyone was great! Kayley served us at the counter and helped me out with my Cinebuzz card, movie was great! staff were friendly! my experience at Chartwell was awesome, thanks team!

  2. Very disappointed. We booked the ticket by going there and their staff gave us a tickets for the wrong session.

We found that as soon as we entered to the screen as other people were already there on our seat number.

When we asked the staff and their manager about their mistake they just simply said we cant do anything. We were 14 people in a group and we asked them to booked in a one raw as it was special day for us and we all were together after a year. Also we booked those tickets one day before the show so that we will get the seats with right place at eye level of the screen.

When we mentioned this to their staff and manager , they said we can’t do anything and even though we paid for it we had to get the worst seats where we had to look up and watched the movie from the uncomfortable position.

Just before that when i asked them that when we go to hoyts they treat is very well and even if their air conditioner doesn’t work then also they give us refund, where here they just dont care.

Their manager said that come to us after movie and we will sort out and after the movie when i gone back to them, they were already left after spoiling our day and didn’t take any action or didn’t even bother to sort out our issue.

It is just ridiculous and worst customer treatment ever.

  3. Very poor service, don’t go there. Their staff made a mistake and gave us a tickets for a wrong show and when we found that in the theatre and ask them that someone else came for the same seat we booked for, they simply just said we made mistake but we cant do anything.

Even after paying them and booked tickets in advance for our convenient seat selection, we had to watch the movie from the uncomfortable position.

3rd class customers service and don’t even bother to sort out the issue , even though it was their mistake

    Disappointed.

  4. One of the worst customer service we have felt in movie night. Planned movie night with friends it was special occasion. Due to very silly mistake of theirs staff we had suffered. Staff did not bother to solve our issue instead they just told us that we can not do anything about that not even say sorry or came to us and left us middle of no where. felt like they do not want to do business.

  5. There is a wide choice of movies here at Event Cinemas Chartwell. Popcorn and a choice of ice creams plus a lot of yum things sweet can be bought here to eat with the movie.
I like the chairs that are so comfortable and can be adjusted to ones comfort. The screens are huge and the sound of the movie is incredible. Parking is a breeze and free. Located on the first floor you can use the escalator or a lift to get to the cinemas. This is a great outing for the whole family. Give it a go. You won’t be disappointed.
