Melbourne Bike Share was a bicycle sharing system that served the central business district of Melbourne, Australia. The stations and bicycles were owned by the government and operated in a public-private partnership with RACV. Launched in 2010, the network utilized a system designed by Montreal-based PBSC Urban Solutions with 600 bicycles operating from 51 stations. Melbourne Bike Share was one of two such systems in Australia until the Victorian Government shut down the service on 30 November 2019.
Initially Melbourne Bike Share experienced low ridership. As of May 2011, users had made about 13,000 trips each month, short of the goal of 25,000 trips per month. A mandatory helmet law was cited as reason. In November 2010, the Victoria state government began offering helmet rentals at selected stations in an attempt to increase both ridership and helmet usage.The Victorian Government decided in May 2013 to trial free helmet sharing by attaching the helmets to the handlebars of a portion of the bike share fleet.
The service offered a variety of daily, weekly and annual passes as well as a pay-as-you-go option.RACV reported in their Annual Report that 170,000 rides took place between July 2015 and June 2016.

    Second time renting a bike here and couldn’t be happier. Staff was attentive and explained everything very well. The bike was well maintained and shifted effortlessly. Only complaint would be the brakes were a bit difficult to squeeze. Gave me an amazing 40km ride to Brighton and back!

    I did the e-bike tour with tour guide Matt today and it’s highly recommended! The bike tour took us about 4 hours including lunch break, riding bike bit south side of Melbourne around botanical garden and stadium through up to north side around CBD along spring street and Fitzroy. we stopped at about 5 spots and each time we learnt about some history and stories, very informative! Bike condition was good, staff were friendly! thank you

    Very good service from these guys at blue tongue bikes. The process of ordering bikes online and going to pick up was extremely easy. Hired 2 electric bikes for 2 days whilst in Melbourne and had a great time riding them around and exploring. Having the electric bikes makes it very easy to get to st kilda and back from the city.

  1. Helped a friend to purchase his dream bike today. Big shout out to Philippa for the professional service. He is very friendly, and has been extremely patient in helping us to choose the right model, and size. We have been through multiple bike shops, and end up coming back to BikeNow because the vibe of the staff members here is the most positive. I can highly recommend them to anyone ?.

  2. Can’t say enough about the awesome folks at Bike NOW of Kings Way in Melbourne, Vic. Business brings me to Australia ever other month and biking a major past time for me back in the USA. I have been renting E-Mountian bikes from Bike NOW for 5 months and found the service to be consistently great.
    Charlie (the manager), Philippe (sales rep) have made this super easy and affordable for me. They have a wide selection of bikes to rent but I always get the Specalized LEVO S4. They make sure it’s in tip-top shape, all charged up and fitted for my height and weight. They also have an awesome selection of biking accessories, and I purchased kneepads and elbow pads for a very good price for my adventures.
    If you’re interested in doing some biking while you’re visiting south Australia, please stop by and see them. They will hook you up with an nice machine at a great price and also tell you some great local spots to get to..

    A++++, and 4 STARS

  3. ?‍♀️An exceptional bike store with great products, wonderful staff, truly amazing customer service and an in-house cycling tours company that runs cycling trips around Europe (eg, Italy) and Australia.

    On my first visit, owner Warren and his colleague Doug solved a technical problem with a bike rack that I’d had for years and that my regular bike store was unwilling even to look at. ? I can’t praise Warren & his team highly enough.

    If you’re passionate about bikes and cycling – and especially if you’ve always dreamt of cycling around Europe – you MUST visit this store!!!

  4. Big shout out to team at bikeNOW. Just completed great Victorian bike ride on bike serviced and accessorised by bikeNOW. Bike performed brilliantly in trying conditions. Thanks for your assistance. Richard

  5. Excellent experience. Came from Canada and rented a bike for a few days. Really nice group of guys in the shop. Bike was great. Couldn’t say enough good things about this place. They really seem to care about the sport and getting people on bikes. Definitely would recommend them to a friend and will be back next time I’m in Australia.
