The Auckland Islands (Māori: Motu Maha "Many islands" or Maungahuka "Snowy mountains") are an archipelago of New Zealand, lying 465 kilometres (290 mi) south of the South Island. The main Auckland Island, occupying 510 km2 (200 sq mi), is surrounded by smaller Adams Island, Enderby Island, Disappointment Island, Ewing Island, Rose Island, Dundas Island, and Green Island, with a combined area of 626 km2 (240 sq mi). The islands have no permanent human inhabitants.
The islands are listed with the New Zealand Outlying Islands. The islands are an immediate part of New Zealand, but not part of any region or district, but instead Area Outside Territorial Authority, like all the other outlying islands except the Solander Islands.
Ecologically, the Auckland Islands form part of the Antipodes Subantarctic Islands tundra ecoregion. Along with other New Zealand Subantarctic Islands, they were designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1998.

    Absolutely stunning!

    Amazing natural beauty.

My first time here, immediately fall in love with everything.

People who live in the neighborhood not only rich in the bank accounts, also rich in the unbeatable surrounding.

Good for hiking Good for walking Good for photo shoot Good for filming Good for chill Good for date

The heaven which is so close to the city centre. You will never regret driving 30 minutes only to visit here

A stunning spot for walking and other recreational activities. There were swimmers, wind surfers, kayakers and runners while we were there. The scenery is stunning but the tracks are run down and it’s obvious council maintenance is lacking. It truly is a hidden gem with beautiful views and bush making for a great spot to enjoy albeit lunch, a walk or something more

Beautiful but long walk. Lots to explore beaches, lagoon, mangroves, native plants, nice shoes, bugs repellent, sunscreen recommend.

We loved the walking trails in this wetlands park area and all of the singing birds! One of the best places in the area for birdwatchers or for wildlife enthusiasts. We also liked the easy access from the trails to multiple starting points from the parking area and streets, and that the paved walkway on the north end connected with another park that was nice to relax in, and had a play area for kids. There is access from the trails to the Glendowie Sand Spit, and many people relax in that area or swim. The Sand Spit also seems to be very popular with kite boarders, and they are fun to watch! We walked these trails almost every day when we were staying in the area, so don’t miss it!

  1. Can’t believe it took me this long to visit this place! It’s very family friendly and there’s a lot of open space to walk and run around.

If you love farm animals there are sheep, cows, horses, pigs and chickens. There are also quite a few different birds and if you’re lucky you might spot some rarer ones.

The walkway is paved so no need to worry about mud unless you want to walk on the grass. It’s also very flat so it’s an easy walk if there are little ones or elderly people.

A very pleasant place to bring the family without having to drive an hour. Would definitely return again.

  2. The Annual Ambury Park Open Day, we had last been there 24 years ago. The parking was well marked and directions could be easily followed to reach there.
Many families with young children had come there. We were able to walk through the paddocks to view the farm animals very close. The birds were in their cages and chicken freely roaming around.
The highlights were sheep shearing, sheep dog guiding the sheep and cow Milking.
Keep a lookout for the open day date next year in November.

  3. We came here not knowing what to expect. It was difficult to find any information about it online (access, animals, parking, etc). We weren’t sure what to expect, but were pleasantly surprised with the experience! (It is not quite like a petting farm/zoo)

But, the park is quite easy to get to and easy to find. There is a camping site located near it (so there was lots of people around, which was easy to know where to go). Parking was available on the field, which was convenient.

We went on a Sunday in the summer, so not sure what activities are available other days of the week/times of the year. Once you make your way through the main entrance, it’s feee roaming from there. There were a few pigs, sheep (very friendly!), goats, and rabbits.

The park is quite vast so bring comfortable walking shoes, and enjoy the scenery. Worth a visit if you’re around, although the availability of the animals may change!

  4. Totally recommended park. The scenery is amazing, plus there are a lot of farm animals to see. Good for picnic and relax. The area is really big, having a bicycle to roam around would be nice as well.
