Queensland (locally KWEENZ-land) is a state in northeastern Australia, the second-largest and third-most populous of the Australian states. It is bordered by the Northern Territory, South Australia and New South Wales to the west, south-west and south respectively. To the east, Queensland is bordered by the Coral Sea and the Pacific Ocean; to its north is the Torres Strait, separating the Australian mainland from Papua New Guinea, and the Gulf of Carpentaria to the north-west. With an area of 1,730,648 square kilometres (668,207 sq mi), Queensland is the world's sixth-largest sub-national entity; it is larger than all but 15 countries. Due to its size, Queensland's geographical features and climates are diverse, including tropical rainforests, rivers, coral reefs, mountain ranges and sandy beaches in its tropical and sub-tropical coastal regions, as well as deserts and savanna in the semi-arid and desert climatic regions of its interior.
Queensland has a population of over 5.3 million, concentrated along the coast and particularly in South East Queensland. The capital and largest city in the state is Brisbane, Australia's third-largest city. Ten of Australia's thirty largest cities are located in Queensland, the largest outside Brisbane being the Gold Coast, the Sunshine Coast, Townsville, Cairns, Ipswich, and Toowoomba. The state's population is multicultural, with 28.9% of inhabitants being immigrants.Queensland was first inhabited by Aboriginal Australians, with the Torres Strait Islands inhabited by Torres Strait Islanders. Dutch navigator Willem Janszoon, the first European to land in Australia, explored the west coast of the Cape York Peninsula in 1606. In 1770, James Cook claimed the east coast of Australia for the Kingdom of Great Britain. In 1788, Arthur Phillip founded the colony of New South Wales, which included all of what is now Queensland. Queensland was explored in subsequent decades, and the Moreton Bay Penal Settlement was established at Brisbane in 1824 by John Oxley.
Much of the economy of colonial Queensland was powered by blackbirded South Sea Islander slaves at the same time that tens of thousands of Aboriginal people were being killed in the frontier wars of colonial expansion.
On 6 June 1859 (now commemorated as Queensland Day), Queen Victoria signed the letters patent to establish the colony of Queensland, separating it from New South Wales and thereby establishing Queensland as a self-governing Crown colony with responsible government. Queensland was among the six colonies which became the founding states of Australia with Federation on 1 January 1901. Since the Bjelke-Petersen era of the late 20th century, Queensland has received a high level of internal migration from the other states and territories of Australia and remains a popular destination for interstate migration.
Queensland has the third-largest economy among Australian states, with strengths in mining, agriculture, transportation, international education, insurance, and banking. Nicknamed the Sunshine State for its tropical and sub-tropical climates, Great Barrier Reef, and numerous beaches, tourism is also important to the state's economy.

My husband and I packed a picnic lunch and wanted to go somewhere surrounded by nature. I’ve been here several times and still haven’t done all the walking trails. We had a picnic under one of the shelters then walked the 900m creekside circuit. It’s just beautiful. I see a new area being constructed too.. a Richmond birding butterfly vine area.

Visited the Botanical Gardens. The grounds are immaculately kept by an army of volunteers. Several short walks within the gardens including the phonominal sculpture trail, with longer walks that extend out of the gardens

A place for everyone to visit and enjoy the outdoor environment, with the peace and calm of an Australian bushland setting. Lots of trails, wide paths, picnic areas and facilities. A cafe open Monday to Friday. An exquisitely beautiful landscape where you can build your resilience and renew your being…

    I love this botanical garden☺️

It’s so beautiful and well looked after.

The drive down wasn’t smooth, as some parts of the road is still gravel road, but it’s totally worth it once you are there.

  1. We had an amazing time!! The tour of the Aviary was amazing! Biggest we have seen so the animals could happily fly around. The guide was super friendly and knowledgeable. Most of the birds have been rescued or obtained from previous owners. They’re well looked after. The animal farm was awesome also! I’ve never seen such clean pens. Best scones I’ve had from the cafe with a gorgeous view of the glass house mountains. Opted to walk around the gardens as we wanted the exercise – gorgeous flowers and wild birds flying in. Loved our time there, would highly recommend and would love to come back with relatives!

  2. We had an amazing day!! Everything was perfect. The staff was very friendly, the food was amazing and we had so much fun with the birds and the farming friends. By the way: as the birds love jewelry they offer paper tape to cover everything. So you don’t need to take everything out.
We highly recommend this park and would love to come back.

  3. This place offers amazing opportunity to interact with birds.

During your visit, you enter various rooms and learn the story of their inhabitants.

The birds seem happy, trusting, not stressed, and often very curious about new guests. They come to you on their own, sit on your shoulder or sing love serenades to you..

    It was absolutely sweet experience.
I believe this place will remain close to my heart.

Thank you for what you do, it’s a mission worth supporting!

  4. We have been twice now and love it! Must do the farm friends and aviary tour. Golf buggy hire for additional $45 is also a great idea for really hot days, otherwise the walk through the grounds is still lovely. Rose garden is beautiful in Summer when flowers are blooming. Children should be supervised closely in the aviary tour, definitely not a let them loose situation.
Farm friends has baby goats, donkeys, sheep, pig, chickens, rabbits and guinea pigs. Brushes provided to brush animals. Feed costs $4 a bag and the animals go crazy for it.
Singing bird is the greatest attraction ? ask for the old MacDonald song.

  5. I enjoyed the experience of the Maleny Botanic Garden! It was exciting to be guided through the different areas where the birds fly free in the closed (netted) areas. The birds could land on your person if they choose!! They were comfortable living in their space as a guide walked us through the different bird areas.
It’s a beautiful place! The staff are friendly and helpful. I didn’t explore the entire property on this visit but I have every intention of returning to do that!!
