The Gold Coast, often referred to by its initials G.C., and officially the City of Gold Coast, is a city in Queensland, Australia. It is Australia’s sixth-largest city, the most populous non-capital city, and the state's second-largest city after Brisbane, with a population over 600,000. The Gold Coast is a coastal city and region located approximately 66 kilometres (41 mi) south-southeast of the centre of the state capital, Brisbane. The city's central business district is located roughly in the centre of the Gold Coast in the suburb of Southport. The urban area of the Gold Coast is concentrated along the coast, sprawling almost 60 kilometres, joining up with the Greater Brisbane metropolitan region to the north and to the state border with New South Wales to the south. Nicknames of the city include the ‘Glitter Strip’ and the ‘Goldy’. The demonym of a Gold Coast resident is Gold Coaster.
The area that became the Gold Coast was originally inhabited by the indigenous Yugambeh people. The city grew from a collection of small townships, the earliest being Nerang in 1865. From the 1920s onwards, tourism led to significant economic growth in the region, and by 1959 the Gold Coast was declared a city, with its first skyscraper being built in 1960. The Gold Coast boomed from the 1980s onwards with skyscraper construction. This era was defined by the city's ‘white-shoe brigade' developers, neon lights, and organised crime, particularly the yakuza and the Russian mafia. The late 20th century saw the city's tourism diversify with theme park openings, and in the early 21st century became an international destination for film production.
The Gold Coast has a diverse economy with strengths in health, tourism, arts and culture, and construction, with a GDP of $40.9 billion. The city ranks highly as one of the country's cultural and creative hotspots, alongside content creators, a growing video games industry, and leads Australia in startups per capita.
The Gold Coast is central to the nation's entertainment industry with a major film and television production industry, leading to the city's metonym of Goldywood. The Gold Coast is also host of the AACTA Awards and the Gold Coast Film Festival.
The Gold Coast is a major tourist destination with a sunny, subtropical climate and has become widely known for its surfing beaches (such as Surfers Paradise), high-rise dominated skyline, theme parks, nightlife, and rainforest hinterland.

Marina & staff are excellent. I’m not sure how often I’ve stayed here for work and holidays but it’s a lot. It’s great value for money, excellent location, rooms always clean & tidy and nothing is a problem for the staff, always go out of their way to assist. Would highly recommend staying here.

Stayed at the Burleigh Gold Coast Hotel with a school group attending a basketball tournament. The rooms were modern, tidy and comfortable. The staff were flexible and accommodating to our needs and the location couldn’t of been better. Highly recommend.

Clean tidy room, nice view to mountains. Helpful kind staff. Close to Burleigh Heads. And on Gold Coast Highway so easy access to all beach areas. A couple of blocks to supermarket. A very nice place to stay ?

We have been staying fortnightly for a few months. When we first booked be thought not our usual short-term rental and thought it would be a once off. After our first stay we could say it was very clean, very functional and Marina and Sally were so helpful and this is still the case months on. We have travelled a lot and often 5 star and can say we are very pleasantly surprised. The motel has recently been renovated and painted, further supporting the clean amenity and good old fashioned service from all staff members. ?

Great little place to stay. Clean and everything you need. What I would suggest though as I was on the bottom floor. Maybe a partition or some type of guard infront of the windows as it looks straight into the carpark and you have to have the blind down all the time so no one sees in. Also maybe have a timer light or sensor light in the hallway as it is quite bright and lights the room up even though the door is closed. Otherwise a great stay.

  1. Absolutely stunning!

My partner and I were very lucky to stay at the voco for the past week and had an incredible stay. The rooms were lovely and stocked with plenty of cute and niche details that really set the voco apart from other hotels. Staff were all friendly and checked up on us frequently and the amenities were great! Breakfast was decent – but it lacked basics such as a barista! Other than that location was perfect and there was overall little fault in our stay!

  2. One of the best value for money hotels I have ever stayed in! I wont even bother looking elsewhere from now on ? (I did get a good deal at the time of booking)

The rooms are great, spacious and well equipped. Bed is comfy and there are many mirrors. A generous sized bathroom and plenty of wardrobe space. Staff were lovely during my stay and the lobby/restaurant is stylish. The location is excellent. It’s super convenient with many shops, restaurants, cafes, grocery stores and other places of interest within walking distance. Not to mention it’s proximity to the beach and the heart of Gold Coast. The tram also stops right outside the hotel. The food service items are very affordable and probably great quality, if the rest of the hotel is anything to go off. There is a pool and gym on site as well, If I remember correctly.

Overall wonderful experience, thanks for having us! ?

  3. I am impressed with Voco previously known as Watermark hotel. It is still maintained well after new management. The service was outstanding, had a faulty shower head, next morning at 7am the problem was instantly fix, the operator was responsive and attend to us immediately. The delivery for new towels and tooth brush was quick too unlike Crown plaza , which never picks up phone when calling operator, had to always go down and never gets delivered despite 2-3 times reminder. Anyway. Another story. But I can see the workers are diligent and happy to help in this hotel, such as Olivia in morning buffet, she attends to all jobs no matter big or small, before customers ask for spoon or knife, she gives it right away. The hotel is lucky to have hard working young staff members. Location no need to say, parking is convenient. The reception people makes check in and check out easy and smooth. Will definitely book again. Thank you

  4. Honestly surprised me. The rooms were clean and comfy and while the aesthetic is a bit kitschy it was fine. But it’s the in hotel entertainment options that set it apart from the other hotels nearby, particularly the Social House bar and bistro. Location is great too.

  5. Stayed 5 nights with daughter for birthday trip up from Sydney. Could not be happier with our stay – location, staff, service was super friendly and nothing was ever too much trouble. We enjoyed daily drinks at Social House and indulged in Monday night pizza specials with Korean sweet & spicy sauce wings. We got the loveliest surprise on our second night with a beautiful cakes platter laid out for us in the room acknowledging my daughter’s 11th birthday. Thank you so much for an unforgettable birthday trip for my little girl!
