The AUD/USD Exchange Rate: What You Need to Know

The Australian dollar (AUD) and the US dollar (USD) are two of the most traded currencies in the world. The exchange rate between these two currencies, known as the AUD/USD exchange rate, is constantly fluctuating. There are a number of factors that can affect the AUD/USD exchange rate, including:

  • Interest rates: When interest rates in Australia are higher than interest rates in the United States, the AUD tends to appreciate against the USD. Conversely, when interest rates in Australia are lower than interest rates in the United States, the AUD tends to depreciate against the USD.
  • Economic growth: When the Australian economy is growing faster than the US economy, the AUD tends to appreciate against the USD. Conversely, when the US economy is growing faster than the Australian economy, the AUD tends to depreciate against the USD.
  • Political stability: When there is political instability in Australia, the AUD tends to depreciate against the USD. Conversely, when there is political stability in Australia, the AUD tends to appreciate against the USD.
  • Commodity prices: Australia is a major exporter of commodities, such as iron ore, coal, and copper. When commodity prices are high, the AUD tends to appreciate against the USD. Conversely, when commodity prices are low, the AUD tends to depreciate against the USD.
  • Speculation: Speculation is the buying and selling of currencies in the hope of making a profit. When there is a lot of speculation in the AUD/USD market, the exchange rate can be more volatile.
  • News events: Major news events, such as natural disasters, wars, and political elections, can also affect the AUD/USD exchange rate.

Here are some additional things to keep in mind when considering the factors that affect the AUD/USD exchange rate:

  • The relative strength of the Australian and US economies is one of the most important factors affecting the AUD/USD exchange rate. When the Australian economy is strong, the AUD tends to appreciate against the USD. Conversely, when the US economy is strong, the AUD tends to depreciate against the USD.
  • The interest rate differential between Australia and the United States is another important factor affecting the AUD/USD exchange rate. When interest rates in Australia are higher than interest rates in the United States, the AUD tends to appreciate against the USD. Conversely, when interest rates in Australia are lower than interest rates in the United States, the AUD tends to depreciate against the USD.
  • The risk appetite of investors is also a factor that can affect the AUD/USD exchange rate. When investors are risk-averse, they tend to sell the AUD and buy the USD. Conversely, when investors are risk-seeking, they tend to buy the AUD and sell the USD.

It’s not bad.. but after we had dropped off our containers we waited around for around 10 mins, nobody came over to offer us any money, or a receipt to collect refund, we gave up and drove off without or refund.

The one here in Kalgoorlie is very different to the one I’m used to in Perth, here you drive through, till you reach the drop off point, off load your containers, the staff are very fast, friendly and efficient (well done ?), once all your containers have been off loaded you drive out and park whilst they quickly separate and count them, then you walk in get your print out, collect your points or cash and leave. Still very happy with the speed and time it took. Will be there regularly

The team did a great job today, great to see local kids working hard in their first jobs, under good supervision. I was impressed by the speed in which they sorted the cans and the service.

Good to see all the whole team wearing PPE and taking it seriously, a good solid foundation into the industry surrounding them.

Well done ! Keep up the good work !

  1. We dined in the main restaurant for lunch. The food was great, well presented and the servings were generous. It was not just your typical pub food. There was some wonderful Asian inspired menu items.

  2. Iconic Kalgoorlie pub, friendly and welcoming staff.
Very decent food and relatively cheap too. Basic wine collection but excel in beers. One of those places where you can breakfast with alcohol. Skimpies too.

  3. Friendly staff, nice atmosphere. Foood was average and there is the ‘mining tax’. $25 chicken schnitzel on mondays is alright, $15 Guinness as well.

  4. First visit to Paddy’s didn’t disappoint. Have to say I’m a bit of a steak pie connoisseur and this steak & guinness pie was up there amongst the best my comparison being Fibber Magees in Leederville. It was absolutely beautiful and the special of the night for $25 was fantastic value. My husband had the tomahawk steak which was a bit overcooked and at $67 a bit overpriced for me. I had a glass of rosè and he had the most expensive pint of cider he’s ever had at $15.
Would I go back…definitely for the steak pie ?
