Pros and Cons of Shopping at Woolworth

Woolworths Supermarkets In Melbourne
Woolworths Supermarkets in Melbourne

Woolworths and traditional markets both offer different shopping experiences that cater to different needs and preferences. Here are some pros and cons to consider when choosing between the two:

Woolworth:

  • Pros:
  • – Convenience: Woolworths stores are typically located in easily accessible areas, making it convenient for shoppers to visit.
  • – Wide variety: Woolworths offers a wide range of products, including groceries, clothing, household items, and electronics, providing shoppers with one-stop shopping convenience.
  • – Quality assurance: Woolworths often offers branded products, ensuring a certain level of quality for shoppers.
  • – Online shopping: Woolworths also provides the option for shoppers to purchase items online and have them delivered to their doorstep, saving time and effort.
  • Cons:
  • – Higher prices: Compared to traditional markets, Woolworths products are generally priced higher due to factors such as branding and convenience.
  • – Limited bargaining: Shoppers may not have the opportunity to negotiate prices or bargain with sellers as they would in traditional markets.
  • – Less personal interaction: The shopping experience at Woolworths may lack the personal interaction and connection that can be found in traditional markets.

Traditional market:

  • Pros:
  • – Lower prices: Traditional markets often offer products at lower prices compared to Woolworth, as they usually source directly from producers or wholesalers.
  • – Bargaining opportunities: Shoppers can negotiate prices or bargain with sellers, potentially obtaining better deals.
  • – Fresh and local products: Traditional markets are known for offering a variety of fresh and locally sourced products, allowing shoppers to support local businesses and enjoy a unique shopping experience.
  • – Personal interaction: Shoppers can directly communicate with sellers, forming connections and gaining insights about the products they are purchasing.
  • Cons:
  • – Limited variety: Traditional markets may have a limited range of products compared to larger stores like Woolworth.
  • – Inconvenience: Traditional markets are often located in specific areas, requiring shoppers to travel to reach them.
  • – Time-consuming: Shopping at traditional markets can be more time-consuming due to the need to visit multiple stalls or vendors to find everything on your shopping list.

Ultimately, the choice between Woolworths and traditional markets depends on personal preferences, budget, and shopping needs. While Woolworths offers convenience, a wide variety, and quality assurance, traditional markets provide lower prices, bargaining opportunities, fresh and local products, and personal interaction.

    I shopped on 21/05/23.
I saw the laundry liquid on sale which is 1/2 price, so I purchased one,
after paying for that, I checked the receipt shows I paid for original price.

Then I checked the shelf again, ane found that only the liquid with softener is on sale, others are not, but all the liquid is on the same shelf which says half price.
So I tried to find a staff to ask for refund, the lady told me I can only do exchange, cannot do refund, so even I replace to the discount one, I still need to purchase something to cover the rest of money.
I told her it’s because some workers put the item on wrong shelf with wrong price tag, then she blame on me it’s all my fault because I didn’t check the price tag and gave me attitude.
I felt like it’s kind of cheating on customer, and there’s no way that I cannot do the refund for this.

So this Woolworths is slightly different from most, it’s elevated on one side that you can access through a lift and stairs whilst on the other it’s connected to a small food court on ground level. It’s fairly similar to your standard Woolworths in terms or what they stock. It doesn’t have that many check outs by staff any more, it’s just all self check outs now.

Honestly, this is the worst Woolworths I’ve seen in years. I can’t even calculate the number of times we had to go back to replace rotten fruits, mouldy berries, or veggies; you don’t want to see their “fresh” produce shelf by the end of the day – it should go straight to the bin by the look of it, not to be sold at full price. But as they are the only shop in Victoria Harbour, I guess there is no motivation to do any better. So disappointing.

Great location as it’s very near my house. The customer service has increased a lot, especially in Deli. They always seem friendly and approachable. However, I noticed there are several things that could be improved.
    • Long wait, either in checkout or deli, due to limited staff I believe
    • Cages blocking pathway, and being left unattended
    • Presentation in deli, such as dry meat, marina mix looks unattractive (other Woolworths have salmon pieces in it), and often empty stocks

Not one of their better stores. Not a single trolley available yet again. One guy alone to serve the whole of the deli and seafood counter.
It’s faster and easier to walk across the road and shop at ALDI.

I think now Woolworths has to have the best customer service out of the two Giants Coles and Woolworths at least you can get a checkout quickly and not have to work for the company for free the check yourself out which also takes jobs away from people it’s expensive as his Coles and I think they could look at reducing their profits and reducing their prices that would help inflation of course pigs would fly before any of that happened

Tried to scan my Woolworths rewards card and it came up on the screen that it had registered on that sale, but when I got my receipt it showed that it hadn’t registered my card. The person at the front counter couldn’t have been less helpful and his manager was even more blasé about the whole thing. Said they couldn’t do anything even though around 6 months ago when this happened again the manager on duty then was able to credit me back the lost points on the spot. Seriously Woolworths have made so much profit, using inflation as in excuse for raising prices constantly they could invest more in customer service training for their staff. Absolutely disgraceful service.

  1. Located in a very central location, this supermarket has a lot to offer. There are many self-checkout counters here. I enjoyed the ambience and the service I received.

  2. My go-to place for groceries and household items. I find almost everything there, so no complaints mostly. With inflation causing a spike in prices, common items do feel expensive at times, bit they try to manage the prices I guess. Compared to Coles and Aldi, the quality of products is better, in my experience. The whole store is very spacious, so it never feels crammed irrespective of the number of people inside. Good job!

  3. Convenient place for groceries, it’s right across of Big W so you can get a lot done with one visit. Also accessible by lift for bigger shopping carts.

    .

Shh! A little tip you get for reading my review. If you’re a regular at QV Woolworths and usually buy more than 5 things at once, it’s worth checking out the Scan&Go feature on their app. It’s really easy and efficient to use, even compared to the self checkout counter. It’s only a secret because they have one counter for this feature and I hope it doesn’t crowd up because I always use it.

  4. No staff at staffed check outs after 1030pm, rude girl wearing masks at self check out machines didn’t want to help to put shopping through. Told her I was asking for help to help to keep people’s jobs, if nobody uses staff, corporations will just start discarding people like useless waste. We must all persist on using staffed check out, for the future of humanity. Some people understand this, rude girl tonight didn’t. Thank you to everyone out there in the world who doesn’t give up on humanity, and continue to choose staffed check outs.
