Kelly Tarlton's Sea Life Aquarium (formerly Kelly Tarlton's Underwater World) is a public aquarium opened in 1985 in Auckland, New Zealand. Located at 23 Tamaki Drive, it was the brainchild of New Zealand marine archaeologist and diver Kelly Tarlton (1937–1985).Built in disused sewage storage tanks, the aquarium used a new form of acrylic shaping, which allowed curved tunnels rather than viewing areas with flat panels only, as in previous aquariums. The project was also one of the first to use moving walkways for people to travel slowly through the viewing areas.

  1. Haven’t been here since I was a kid. Visited today and wow what an amazing place. So kick has changed and all for the better.
Great cafe, playground for the kids, touch tanks, free talks, helpful staff, and some interesting pieces of NZ history. My kids were blown away and so were we.

  2. We visited last weekend with the kids. There’s no allocated parking for Kelly T so better get there early or be prepared to walk. Upon entering it smelled like a urinal. I’m not sure if that’s just what the penguins smell like, because they’re the first attraction. The public toilets were dirty and smelly. They need to be cleaned more regularly. We paid $148 for a family of 4. It was OK, however, the kids loved it as they don’t notice the detail . The shark tank was pretty and a cool experience for us all.

  3. This is a bit small aquarium compared to other aquariums I have visited around the world. However they managed to keep it entertained. Its really good for kids and kids with adults. But not much for adults. If you are an adult, you can finish the entire aquarium within one our.

I dont think its worth the money

I didnt try the experiences they provided (penguin keeper and shark cage snorkeling). It is bit pricy compared to the general ticket.

From kids perspective 4/5. From adults perspective 2/5. (not enough exhibits for me)

  4. We took our 15, 8 and 5 year old and they all loved it! Something for everyone. We were there for about 2.5hrs but could’ve stayed longer. So much to see and experience. A must do in Auckland if you can afford it!

  5. We had an impromptu visit and loved every minute. The displays are outstanding but the stand out for us were the staff. The shows/talks and feedings they put on are world class. I want to make a special mention of Jenna who went above and beyond answering my son’s hundreds of questions. Her knowledge is incredible! Thank you! We had the best time.
