Cabomba is an aquatic plant genus, one of two belonging to the family Cabombaceae. It has divided submerged leaves in the shape of a fan (hence the vernacular name fanwort) and is much favoured by aquarists as an ornamental and oxygenating plant for fish tanks. One species, Cabomba caroliniana, is a nationally declared weed in Australia, where it has choked up waterways after escaping from aquaria.

I liked it here. There are some beautiful animals and some animals I’ve never seen before in other mainland zoos. The Wombats were awake and active, and we got to watch a feeding. The zoo is wheelchair and pram friendly, and the gradient isn’t too step, but you can give yourself a nice workout if you tried. All the animals in the petter areas were friendly and approachable, and all the staff were knowledgeable and friendly. The kids play area and small cafe is a great place to have a rest if planning on spending all day, or grabbing and ice cream on the way out. I had to remove a star as the entire kids’ area smelt like cigarette as people were by their cars smoking, and it came directly in, not very healthy unfortunately. But overall, it was a wonderful day out for the family.

We chose to spend a day in Zoodoo zoo as our last day of the Tassie trip. The price may be a bit expensive but I felt totally worthy as the zookeepers and staffs took care of the animals very well. Once you got in, you can visit big cat lion, zebra, monkey and have a chance to feed kangaroos and donkey. The overall visiting experience for me is that, Zoodoo zoo felt more like a ‘farm’ than a ‘zoo’ as all animals are living happily and peacefully. Highly recommend the experience????????

For a small country zoo there was a very unique variety of animals, recommend not visiting in the middle of the day as most animals are nocturnal and are asleep.

The keepers do a great job during talk times, personalised experiences seemed a bit expensive since they didn’t last long.

A must visit while in Tassie especially with kids. A good animal feeding experience and we got to see new animals which we haven’t seen in Melbourne zoo. The Cafe is great to and a play area for kids as well. Soo many chirpy birds, a woow experience.

This is the best zoo we’ve ever been to. You get to interact and feed some of the animals. The zoo is not packed out, you have alot of privacy and space to explore at your own pace. There are alot of animals to see. The staff are very friendly and there is a play area for the kids. ~ Sydney

  1. If you love seahorses, this place is worth a visit. Perfect indoor activity for a rainy day especially. We arrived at 3pm but as we didn’t pre-book, the tour was already full so we had to wait until 4pm till the next one. However, it wasn’t an issue for us, we looked around the gift shop and had a hot drink while we waited. The tour guide was very enthusiastic and passionate about the seahorses. Very informative and you even have the opportunity to touch a seahorse if you wish.

  2. We had a great time at Seahorse world. The tour guide was really nice and super knowledgeable. So many seahorses and other cool sea creatures too. The displays look awesome as well.
All the animals are happy, healthy and thriving. It’s nice to see such a passionate tourguide telling us all about the seahorses!

The only thing that was a bit off putting was one of the staff members when we arrived. We had a tour booked for 10am and we were tracking well to arrive at 9:45 but unfortunately our little almost 2 year old was carsick on the way. This meant we had to stop, help her etc before getting there at 10:05. When I said we were here for the tour the guy just said “well you’re late” in such a scowling way with lots of attitude. I explained what happened, not that I should have to because it’s on me if I miss some of the tour, and we joined the tour to see we didn’t miss much at all.
It was unnecessary and thankfully the rest of the tour was awesome because that definitely wasn’t a nice way to start the visit.

  3. Cute little seahorse aquarium with a charismatic and enthusiastic tour guide.

It gave an interesting insight into seahorses and they also contribute to conservation.

You will need to book the tour

  4. Great little place, the parking on sight as you enter the road isn’t all there is. If you drive over the bridge towards the building and then around, there are a couple more spots closer to the entrance.
Yours are a mandatory part of this place as it’s not an aquarium for self exploration, it’s an actual farm for seahorses. It was fascinating to see the set up, the variety and we got to hold a seahorse at the end.
The tour guide seems to have worked there too long ? he had no issues sharing his personal thoughts but at times they got a little bitter. I still liked the experience.
Phone cameras worked better than my digital camera, the light was too dark and too many people, not a lot of time to take a decent shot. So just take photos (flash off) with the phone.
Shop at the end was good, prices decent and a lot of variety. I ended up getting a lot of gifts from this place compared to other shops located at tourist destinations.
