Went there to see the oldest tree in Wellington. We liked this place. Clean, the signs were clear, made it easy for us to explore.

Perfect walk through native bush and lots to see from the top of the ridge. You could spend days in here with all the possible routes. I’ll be back!

I have been visiting this reserve for just under 30 years. I have seen change via improvements, areas that were planted out turn into mini forests. I have seen the beauty of the historic forest blend with the new. I love the water ways. Most of the recent change is the increase in bird life & that is something that I love. This nature reserve & plant museum is well worth visiting. There is something for everyone & walking tracks for all fitness levels. I do ask that people do appreciate that this is a popular spot. I ask that all dog owners (which include myself) represent all dog owners in a responsible manner. Please control your dogs, please pick up after your dogs & please ensure your dogs do not interact with other park users, without their consent.

  1. Great for a stroll around. Marvellous tree specimens with some clear explanation boards giving details on the trees. Flowers coming into bloom when we visited, so the overall colour was improving . As others have commented, there are some steep paths, and the directions/signposts to move around the garden aren’t too clear.
The cafe was busy but coped with the guests and there was no waiting for a table.

  2. Great park for the locals. It’s leafy and full of native plants. The Garden has a few spots for great photos. Although it’s winding and hilly, it’s a must for Wellington visitors. Just a short walk from the cable car station.

  3. Lovely day out with family exploring the gardens. Highly recommend coming up here via the cable car. Lots of plants to see and a great little food store near the roses. It was very busy at 11am. Prepare for lots of walking.

  4. What s beautiful garden. I’ve never been somewhere with suck a well kept botanical garden. There is a large square with probably close to 100 roses and a greenhouse with many different plants I’ve never seen before. The park itself is well shaded for a stroll with your family and has multiple loops with different types of trees and flowers. My favorite part was the peace flame which is a memorial fountain near the roses.

  5. Enjoying the various collections of roses in Lady Norwood Rose Garden every summer.. Usually blooming on late December until January.

Bring the kids to enjoy the view, smell the roses and having an ice cream at the picnic cafe. Don’t forget to wear your hat and apply repellent cream if you don’t want to bite by the sandflies.
