The Bicentennial National Trail (BNT), originally known as the National Horse Trail, is one of the longest multi-use, non-motorised, self-reliant trails in the world, stretching 5,330 kilometres from Cooktown, Queensland, through New South Wales and the Australian Capital Territory to Healesville, 60 km north-east of Melbourne. This trail runs the length of the rugged Great Dividing Range through national parks, private property and alongside wilderness areas. The BNT follows old coach roads, stock routes, brumby tracks, rivers and fire trails. It was originally intended for horses, but is these days promoted also for cycling and walking, though it is not yet entirely suited to these two activities.

Great off lead dog park with a cool water along the river on a hot day. Plenty of dog bins and by and large the four legged locals were all very friendly. It’s Fairfield so I was expecting as much

An interesting and multi-use public park alongside a section of creek. Dog friendly- on and off-lead areas. Great for bike riding, running, and picnics.

Terrific place to walk. Trails all over the place, Darebin Creek and some other water features here and there. There’s a popular off leash are, BBQs, toilets, a playground and a couple of convenient places to park. It is popular, so parts of it won’t be so quiet if you’re there to explore, but there are some trails that have less traffic.

A pleasant and large park with mostly flat walks and cyclist routes. Great for taking your dog for a walk on leash too, with lots of different tracks and several picnic areas along the route. There’s a lookout tower to climb up, some river walking routes, and an off-leash dog park not too far away too. Toilet facilities located within the park and plenty of benches along the tracks.

  1. My Lofty loop walk and can also do a shorter walk and go straight up the steep hill on your right as coming along the path. Can see rare birds, kangaroos, amazing views all around and Maroondah Valley. Definitely worth a visit for nature lovers and hikers.
No public toilets or BBQ facilities at Lyon Road entrance.

  2. It’s a really nice park if you’re looking for something near Melbourne and is kind of accessible with public transport from the city with bus 906 and a bit of a walk from Warrandyte. You can experience the Australian Victorian bush with many native birds and walk along the Yarra River. A few nice tracks, some points are slightly difficult. The blue tongue bent and the black flat tracks are worth to experience.
