3 months agoImagine the amount people who have passed through Lismore and did not have the chance to see this big monster of a log. The big log will always have a place in my heart. Thank you big log for being such a precious gemstone in our hidden citya year agoOde to Log; Oh Log, you are our rock. You stay firm in times of toil. You could float but you are so dense that you decide to remain. So problably not your choice, I really should rewrite this like the flood is re-writing Lismore. Log, you are always there for us as the waters recede, waiting silently for locals to return for a VB or a bong – your only visitors. Precious Log from Cedar tree you came, donning the mountains surrounding, looking over the flood plains, how ironic. Log, please forgive us, wise old soul. Accept our sorrows in times of despair as our apology for the crimes we have committed. Lovemore, Logmore.5 years agoIt’s a bit bizzare. In 1968 this gigantic cedar log was donated to the Lismore City Council, and I guess they liked it so much that they decided to make a monument out of it. They even built it a little roof. There are picnic tables and bins around it, and it is generally well maintained.

The Richmond River Historical Society Inc. (RRHS) is based in the city of Lismore in the Northern Rivers region of NSW. RRHS was founded in 1936, one of the first three historical societies formed in New South Wales outside the Sydney region.
Its mission is to collect, preserve, display and disseminate historical material relevant to the continuing history of North Eastern NSW.
It consists entirely of volunteers who maintain, develop, interpret and promote the collections of the Lismore Museum and its Research Centre Archives.
The award-winning Lismore Museum has one of the best historical collections in regional Australia. The all-volunteer museum is managed by the Richmond River Historical Society, which since 1936 has collected, preserved, displayed and disseminated the fascinating history of this multicultural community of some 140,000 people. The story of these peoples is told in the displays and research archives of the museum. Descendants wishing to understand their origins, and newcomers wanting to discover the area’s history, are welcome to visit the displays and to also research in the extensive archives
