A slice of history in this part of the Bay of Plenty. You’ll be transported back in time inside the well-preserved cabins or houses where the people back then used to live in. The garden is just awesome! Serene and quiet in the heart of the city. The guides are welcoming, pleasant and very knowledgeable.

Beautifully maintained historic site with fantastic gardens. The lovely guide (Judy, I believe) was so knowledgeable and passionate about the topics of the presentation. She added another layer of perfection to an already magnificent experience.

Took the opportunity to stop off (road trip) at the Elms on the way home to stretch our legs. Great value for money and the guide was very knowledgeable about the house and garden and the early history or ‘modern’ New Zealand. The garden is well maintained and we spent just as much time wandering around it as we did inside the house and library.

  1. Really cool place to go for a wander (as a first time visitor to Tauranga). Lots of cool little shops and galleries hidden amongst the streets which are littered with piece of art on the walls, the ground and the greenery! You really have to keep both eyes open else you’ll miss something. We didn’t get to go visit all the shops as were were travelling with a toddler who couldn’t sit still, but they all looked very interesting. Definitely worth a visit, and not to mention, everything here is very photogenic!

  2. Great place to visit before 3pm, a cafe over there is lovely, many art galleries & shops are to be seen.
Doggy friendly, children friendly, wheelchair friendly.

  3. Such a cute vintage village! It felt like going back in town. There’s a cafe with honestly the most aesthetic and appetising cabinet food and amazing coffee, a cinema, lots of fashion stores, a tattoo parlour and even pottert studio!
