4 weeks agoBeautifully landscaped. Too bad there was closure due to the weather to perhaps the best part of the quarry. But hey can’t complain if it’s by donation. 🙂 be generous, it’s a beautiful place for a picnic and a stop over to stretch your legs. Don’t forget rain or shine they have umbrellas you could use. Unfortunately, I only saw it on our way back, but it would’ve been nice to have it offered 🙂 as I was sunburnt ? And they sell plants too, so go prepared.a month agoWe visited before the storm damage and was upset with the prospect it would be too bad to restore but we are glad to hear that this wonderful garden is still open. It is unique in NZ with such a variety of exotic plants that are well named. Lots of great landscaping design is incorporated into making this a fabulous visit.6 months agoGreat little walk with plenty of plants to see. I bet it looks different in every season! Most plants have labels so it’s really cool you can read them all. Plenty of parking with a Cafe aswell. There’s plants, rocks, waterfalls, rivers and even a man made cave you can walk through. Check it out! Entry by donation.2 weeks agoSuperb gardens, transformed an abandoned quarry into a beautiful garden setting. Has suffered some flood damage ( still huge amounts of garden unaffected )but been repaired and certainly worth visiting. Koha donation to enter, free parking.3 months agoLovely and well maintained gardens and after a very short & easy hike you get rewarded with a fantastic view on the lake and waterfalls. Highly recommend to stop by here

The area above the falls is well looked after with lots of green space and new trees planted with picnic tables in the area. A good path down to the bottom of the falls and then up the other side. Well worth a visit and right by the parking area.
Just a short walk from the parking area, towards the bush(not the beautiful cemented path on the left). There are some steps down, so it is not accessible by wheelchair. However, there is a view from the top of the falls for those who can’t do the walk. And it’s beautiful! It’s worth the stop, and visit! Swimming isn’t recommended here. However, we did see someone swimming there.
Beautiful morning walk to bring in the New Year! Whangarei has a lot of little gems you just have to look for them ? I took the quick route which would have been a 5-7 minute walk to get to the falls, given that you’re not stopping and looking at the falls from all angles/lookouts. It looks well taken care of. There are toilet facilities and places to sit and eat. Quite nice ? I think I don’t remember if you can eat right next to the waterfalls. Pls be a good visitor and take your rubbish with you ☺️
This place was a beauty beyond. I loved the fact we were able to get close to the fall itself and took pictures. It wasn’t a good day for me in general, I wasn’t feeling well, and the trek down to the bottom of the falls and then back up was beyond exhausting for me. Especially coming back up, took thrice the time it took to get down. But that all went away when I looked back at the pics we took and the memories we made in that serene place ?
A very great spot for a family. It was my first time but I love how you wouldn’t expect mother nature just not far from town.
One thing that you should know is that when it is high season. There are not many car parks around so you may park away and walk to the place.
