Got a real cosy feel to it and the chocolate pudding is a great way to get everyone into the living area in the evening for some relaxed chats. Far and away, this hostel was better, and I wish I’d chosen it for my earlier stay as well. The staff was nice, the parking was easy and plentiful, even with it mostly being street parking. Clean, cozy, good bathroom and kitchen facilities, free dessert in the evenings, plenty of places to hang out and lots of board games and stuff for backpackers to use. I liked it. If I come back to Nelson again, this will definitely be my go to choice.3 weeks agoVery nice people and a good place to meet others traveling, rooms are a bit small but we make the most of it here and it’s close to everything. We really liked the people who were very helpful about where we can go next. Recommend a short stay here especially if you want to meet others to travel with.a month agoTasman Bay Backpackers is a wonderful place for backpackers and solo travelers. It is the best backpackers place I’ve ever been at. Plenty of good, clean, and well maintained facilities in and outdoors. The dorms and beds are very comfortable. Lastly, the staff is extremely helpful and friendly. If you visit Nelson this is the must-stay-place!2 months agoDefinitely one of the best hostels I‘ve been to in NZ. The staff is absolutely friendly and helpful, and the general vibe in this hostel is just so relaxed and enjoyable. On top of that, there is dessert for everybody in the evening!

Clean tidy linen, carpet could have done with a decent clean or shampoo. No extractor fan in the bathroom ment that the window needed to be open, but it opened into the neighbours area. And with no security latch, we had to close it again while we went out. Pricing was steep if you hadn’t booked months in advance. Wifi was ridiculously slow. The pool was clean, and vehicle access and parking were great.
Unfortunately we are just staying the one night, as the rooms are lovely and the location is perfect. We had dinner at the hotel restraunt and it was truly amazing! Both the service and food was exceptional. Would highly recommend. Thank you!
If you leave anything behind in the rooms don’t expect to get it back! I left an expensive drink bottle in the fridge in the room.. rang reception and told them about it they said they would ask the cleaners but apparently it’s just dissappeard. Un trust worthy and very disappointed.
Wow what a difference a few days make.
Nothing in the room to say about the surcharge (which I consider excessive ($20 each time) if you order from flames). I don’t mind paying a surcharge but $20 – come on. Also, the room needs a really good clean, black mould in the bathroom and little black insects flying around everywhere. Heat pump needs some TLC as the broken TV remote
This is the best lamb dish I have ever eaten! This food was sooooo good. Service was nice. I will truly miss this lamb shank, as I live on the other side of the planet. It haunts my dreams!
