Place is old, rooms are very basic, no mini fridge in room. To keep anything cold. Towels and wash clothes had stains on them. Recommended bring your own with you. Very cheap prices so you get what you pay for. If another room was in their bathroom, expect your bathroom sink and toilet to glug away and fill up. Won’t be staying again unless emergency.

Didn’t book online just rocked up, anyway the room was very warm and old fashioned so everything felt like I was in 1930s movie, even has ghostly creaky brass door knobs, I didnt use the kitchen so can’t comment was busy getting to and from my son’s rugby tournament, and related social activities. The front desk was very helpful I could park my car outside after 8pm and get moving before 8am, that’s when paid parking would begin, I arrived Sunday left Wednesday good idea is check in early 3pm was not busy at that time, 3 nights stay single room shared bathroom card access building was secure. There is a brilliant Cafe next door with a post office and reasonably priced yummy cafe type food used it once, as most of time ate with the team, overall place is well placed clean and cheap.

Bed had bed bugs and we woke covered in bites. We were transferred to an upgraded room with an ensuite, but the bath was stained and dirty. The kitchen had no forks. The location is very convenient with bus stops close and the staff are friendly.

If Ryanair did hotels… great location near ferry and train and walkable everywhere, but that’s it. Least friendly welcome I’ve had in a month in NZ (and most places). Old shabby and a bit grubby room, bathroom like a student flat from the 90s. Everything costs extra – luggage storage, hairdryer..(!). Cheap but you really really feel it.

I have visited Wellington for some business and book this place to just spend my night. I have been to this place a couple of times before.

There were enough facilities as a backpacker place but it was too noisy and hard to catch a sleep. Since I had no much time for sleep and also I have to take the BlueBridge ferry, this was a good option to me. Coz the ferry is just in front of the hotel. Unlike some other backpackers places, there was a shared bathroom for just two rooms. There is a large hall next to the kitchen and it is very good to sit and relax with your friends while eating. There are no many restaurants around but a Subway and a Macca. If you walked to the railway station in front of the hotel, you can see the supermarket and a coffee shop. The coffee shop opens early morning.

The lady who worked at the checking counter isn’t that friendly. She is the same person who came to my room on the second day and said that I should be out today. I booked my 2 night stay from the booking dot com website. I got irritated and told her to go and check your system again before you talk to me.

Overall, this place is good if you are looking for a cheap backpacker place or a place to keep your stuff until you get your work done in Wellington.

  1. It was great to return to the ibis Wellington again. This is a well located hotel and has a nice feel about it. The room was clean and comfortable and the outside noise lower than most. The restaurant meals were excellent, and a guest that I had for dinner commented that he also liked the food. Staff were also friendly and efficient. I rate this higher than many other ibis hotels that I have stayed at.

  2. The hotel was so loud, unsure if from the washing machines on the floor, the aircon, or just the normal volume of the hotel. The shower was only warm for a couple minutes before going cold and not heating back up. I ordered ‘room service’ and received a call to collect my food when it was ready. I was in my pajamas and asked for it to be brought up and they said they didn’t do that. I went down to collect and had to place my food on the floor when I got back to my room so I could use my room key to get in – ridiculous. There were several people working at reception/in the return that could deliver the food OR explain when you call that’s how it works. I stay in hotels weekly for work and have never experienced that.

  3. The service here was impeccable. We arrived late in the evening (11pm) and the front desk peson was magic. She was so helpful while I was tied and had a young family with me. I had a few other times where I needed guidance and they were all brilliant.

  4. We had a one night stay. For the price of the accommodation we were extremely happy with the location, comfort of the bed, and shower facilities. Also we arrived late so it was really convenient to be able to have a meal in the restaurant located at the Ibis. It’s an older building but definitely I would stay again. Thanks also to the helpful staff on reception.

  5. My wife an I stayed here for the Foo Fighters gig at Sky City Stadium. Perfect location as it was walking distance and close to everything else in the city. The rooms were clean and tidy each day and smelt nice too. Our service we received from all staff (reception, meal reception and cleaners) was nothing but positive. Would easily stay here again!
