Even though the building itself was built back in 60s ,but it still maintains to the best library in south Pacific. Inside is well setup with all kind of books to their different sections and every book in the library has a soft copy in the internet,: library link. I enjoyed in the library everyday because it has the best air corn and is very cool and nice temperature which keeps you completely comfortable.
Michael Somare library is the biggest library so far in PNG that was built in the 1970s. It was named after late Grandchief Sir Michael Thomas Somare who’s the founding father of the nation Papua New Guinea which he was the Prime Minister of the country when the library was built. It’s the library of the premier university in PNG and the Pacific called the University of Papua New Guinea.
The library contains collections of over thousands books which enhanced the learning capacity of the students of the University of PNG. As a student, the library is so helpful for me because it assist me academically in terms of carrying out research for assignments and also to accelerate my brains working ability through reading very educative books. Accessibility time of the library is from 8:00-4:00pm. Students are to utilize their free time doing their studies and having access to books and computers during this time frame.
Usually the total heads are supposed to access the library before Covid-19 came in was 1000-1500 students. However as a matter of stopping the spread of Covid-19, the number was scaled down to 500-600 students to ensure that there is social distancing. All in all, that’s all I can share with you guys and thanks much google for giving me the opportunity to at least share a brief view of Sir Michael Somare library
It’s a very conducive place for study and research. Very favorable temperatures inside the library. But there’s no wheel chair accessible parking.
Good place for Searching for Books.
It’s noiseless and cool for reading.
If you are free come and check!!
Reading is the key to unlock the Knowledge for the world out there.
The library is very old from 5 to 6 decades of building structure most parts of it. Atleast the school should do are total maintenance to keep in shape. But I’d say it’s still workable for students and the public wishing to use the facility.
That all.
