Hastings (; Māori: Heretaunga) is an inland city of New Zealand and is one of the two major urban areas in Hawke's Bay, on the east coast of the North Island. The population of Hastings (including Flaxmere) is 51,500 (as of June 2023), with a further 15,200 people in Havelock North and 2,090 in Clive. Hastings is about 18 kilometres inland of the coastal city of Napier. These two neighbouring cities are often called "The Bay Cities" or "The Twin Cities".
The city is the administrative centre of the Hastings District. Since the merger of the surrounding and satellite settlements, Hastings has grown to become one of the largest urban areas in Hawke's Bay.
Hastings District is a food production region. The fertile Heretaunga Plains surrounding the city produce stone fruits, pome fruit, kiwifruit and vegetables, and the area is one of New Zealand's major red wine producers. Associated business include food processing, agricultural services, rural finance and freight. Hastings is the major service centre for the surrounding inland pastoral communities and tourism.

Budget eat at Botanic Gardens. Spacious with lots of tables, and there’s air conditioning to escape the heat. Various local and international delights available at sub-$10 prices. I had the ginger beef with rice which was acceptable and reliable. A good place to sit down for a quick rest after a nature walk, or to get some work done.

This food was very reasonably priced. It was closer to the prices in a normal food court rather than what is found at a usual tourist place. The food was quick and good enough. I think alot of the food was premade and just heated on request. A very large menu. A little disappointed that they wouldnt fill up my drink bottle on request however upstairs and norrthwards towards the toilets there is a dirnking fountain.

A nice place to recharge and escape the heat after a walk in the gardens. Pleasant atmosphere and has a play area for kids. Wide selection of reasonably priced food and drinks. My nasi lemak tasted ok, not great. Still, I will probably come back again since I park there a lot when going to Gleneagles hospital, and has more food choices than Gleneagles.

Overall okay for what you get. The service is zero self service food Court style western and Asian food. Aircon strong very fast food style. The menu price does not match the computer screen. Its hard to use not friendly user. But food came out ok lah. Nothing spectacular but it’s what I expected for tourists trap places like this.

Good food nice cozy place to sit! We ordered quite many things only thing is I didn’t like the chicken nuggets! It was really weird textured on the other hand every other thing we ordered was good. There is a play area too so kids stay busy and let you eat in peace! One more thing there was just 1 host in day time so things were processing very slow.

  1. Book in advance as this place is busy.
Had the chilli crab and everyone of us enjoyed the dish. We had the small crab which was around 1 kilo.
Food quality and taste definitely was above average, hence the price was above average too.
Worth a visit if you are nearby. Place is comfortable for a long dinner.

  2. Ordered the “Capricorn” because of past reviews thinking it’s probably just a meme. It wasn’t. It was the highlight of the meal. I’m obsessed. Don’t get me wrong, everything else was great too. The crabs were fresh, the sauces were good, and the sesame chicken was, well, very sesame. The broccoli was a choice though, can skip.

  3. We flew to Singapore to eat at Holy Crab! The Chili crab and black pepper crab is the best we’ve had in Singapore. Chef Elton was so gracious as to come out and greet us after our meal! Thank you very much for the great food! We will be back for sure!

  4. Decided to dine with my daughter at this quiet corner hearing the good reviews. No doubt the restaurant is presentable with catchy decors. The front staff approach us, and provided us an outdoor seat without choice although there is only a visible occupied table. Took time to order as we are both small eaters and generally difficult to finish the crab items. Without any recommendation from the staff, we decided to pick up their fried rice with Japanese mini crabs with mayonnaise. The fried rice is fragrant and sufficient for 2 to share. Mini crabs are crispy and tasty except for the tough/ hard legs. I would appreciate it if staff would be more proactive to recommend food items base on the diners group and preference. Otherwise, the visit would have been given 5 stars straight.

  5. Good food, good service. Quite a different take on the chilli crab sauce when compared to more common offerings locally. Delicious.

I come here far too often for my own good.

Do make a reservation especially on weekends.
