The Pivotonian Cinema is a modest, single cinema venue (in the works of being extended to 2 cinemas) that screens hand-picked films from around the world.

They have a fully licensed Candy Bar with a small but satisfying selection of local beer and wine. Snacks are limited but popcorn is abundant and I highly recommend the @patandstick ice cream sandwiches!

There is a booth at the rear of the reception and stools at the bar if having a yarn and a laugh with the staff is your thing like mine ? Cinema seating is allocated and there is also a few bean bags at the front of the cinema if you prefer to stretch out and kick back.

The Pivotonian is a fully accessible venue, serviced by 7 major bus routes. South Geelong station is also at the end of the street which are both convenient transport options as parking at the venue is limited.

Pivotonian offers memberships, with discounted tickets and gift cards. Staff are laid back, sending out a very relaxed and welcoming vibe. A cool alternative to your usual main stream cinema experience.

‼️ Disclaimer: I was so busy eating my ice cream sanga at the beginning of the night and too busy talking to the stranger sat next to me at the end of the movie, that I literally forgot to get a photo of the actual cinema. I know, I know! ??‍♀️ So let’s get creative and use our incredible imaginations – think small but accommodating, cosy and intimate, with burgundy seating and lots of leg room!

? Fun fact: Pivotonian was the old name for the people of what we now know to be – Geelong! Known back in the Gold Rush era as Pivot City.

A nice single screen cinema, with comfortable seats with a decent sized screen for the auditorium. The sound was also on point, which alongside keen ticket prices made for an enjoyable evening seeing the new Wonka film!

Lovely local cinema vibe with good movies. Popcorn and other snacks available. Coffee and wine too. Can get a bit crowded around the ticket sales area when it’s busy but still manageable.

  1. Visited this cinemas for the first time to take my son to see his first ever movie on the big screen during a VJunior session. I was blown away by how good our entire experience was! We purchased tickets, ordered food at the candy bar at the back of the cinemas and enjoyed a good play with the hot wheels set up, colouring in and slide before the movie. During intermission (I think was about 10-15 mins in the middle of the movie), we had a toilet break and played with some mega blocks. The seats were really nice and they had a few boosters available as well to use. Also I liked the fact the cinemas wasn’t as dark as a normal session, which made it less scary for our first visit. Overall, this is a nice experience to do for your little ones first time at the movies.

  2. The staff here and incredible. They aren’t just “friendly” but they go above and beyond to make sure everyone has a good experience, the theatre and bathrooms are always very clean and they have a good range of snacks and drinks to choose from, even coffee.

  3. The kids cinema was great! There were toys, colouring supplies and a slide to burn off some energy before the movie. The intermission in the middle helped with restlessness and we could order hot food/drinks to be brought to us. We must remember to bring the children next time, I’m sure they’d love it.

  4. Booking online is a nightmare, will never buy a gift voucher from them again. They also charge $13.00 booking fee, what a rip off. Still haven’t been able to book and no phone service to help. I think that’s very shabby treatment.

  5. Tired and in desperate need of a tear down and rebuild. Place felt dirty…. like it’s covered in years of grounded grime. The suede on the couches were evident of this. We only went as we had vouchers. Not a nice experience at all.

However, the staff were great and very attentive.
