  1. Enjoyed the movie and setting very much but made the mistake of sitting at the front so couldn’t see the whole screen in one view. Fortunately there were empty seats several rows back and that made all the difference. The last time I went to the State Cinema was in 1974 some 49 years ago to watch Charlotte’s Web with my younger sister. It won’t be so long until I return next time ?

  2. Was a nice setup with good quality sound and picture. Only downside was being able to hear the movie in the next cinema during quiet scenes of what we were watching. Still a good movies tho.

  3. My first time at this beautiful cinema. The experience from start to finish was very enjoyable. Walking into the foyer was an aesthetically pleasing experience with what I think is an art deco style. Very friendly staff who look like they are enjoying their jobs, thanked me for joining the in-house ‘Movie Buffs’ member benefits programme. Cinema 5 was spotlessly clean. Sound and projection were excellent, as was the movie (The Holdovers) and the patrons were all considerate. I will definitely be going back. Loved it and so did my daughter. Such a welcome difference from the big Auckland cinemas I’m used to.

  4. What a gem. How many Art Deco cinemas are still standing? This beautiful building has adopted a unique business model by creating multiple small cinemas to screen a variety of movies.
We loved the experience, the staff were fantastic and we happened to choose a gem of a movie which will stay with us for a long time.
    Go!

  5. A first class local cinema showing the most recent movies. Also has one of the best pizza restaurants to enjoy a pizza before or after a movie. You can have a great evening out at State Cinemas with a movie and pizza. Nelson residents are lucky to have such a great facility right in the center of the CBD, with easy parking after 5.00pm.
