Beautiful place unfortunately no regulations, so lots of screaming kids disturbing the poor animals. Would love to see more signs or see parents teach their kids to be quiet. A few of these animals are nocturnal… Do better! Worth a visit regardless.

Came across this wonderful reserve today and so glad we did. It’s beautifully maintained, with many walking tracks, sheltered seating areas, alongside BBQ areas, clean restrooms & various shelters that you can book in advance. The well constructed walkways take you amongst the trees, where you can see an amazing variety of animals. At the pond, we stopped and were thrilled to see many tortoises, trying to camouflage themselves amongst the underwater habitat. There is also a well constructed playground with lots of tactile activities for the kids. A perfect spot for the whole family! ???

What a great area, always drove past to/from work but never knew what it was. Great for kids parties, large grass area, playground and BBQ areas. Parking is $14 for the day but entry to see animals is free so well worth it. Also lots of bushwalks, get amongst it!

Good place to take the whole family with play ground, walking trails, electric barbecues, park benches and tables, paid under cover shelter and even a kiosk (closed when we visited on a Tuesday). Nicely maintained and kept clean. Entry is free but there are parking metres out in the parking lot with minum fee of $5. There’s a duck pond located just after the well maintained lawn near the entrance with peacocks and wild turkeys roaming the grounds even out in the car park area. In the enclosed animal enclosures there are wallabies, kangaroos and emus.

The last time I had been here was close to a decade ago. The amount of effort put in to upgrade the facilities and cleanup the water quality in the main pond is phenomenal. Highly recommend this place for eating a takeaway lunch or just quiet contemplation during the week. Not so quiet on weekends or holidays.

  1. Nice park. We went a bit after 12 and unlucky for us most animals were sleeping. Also unfortunately their sign at the entrance said we could hold a Koala but when purchasing our ticket we were told it’s not done in NSW. However overall I believe kids would enjoy the park.

  2. This wild park well maintained and animal cared so meticulously. Also park employees are super friendly and helpful. They do great job over there. The paramount anecdotes is that park absolutely make you feel thrilled. If you’re visiting to Newcastle.! You shouldn’t have missed that place for visit 🙂 Huge thanks to Hunter Valley Park workers.! I do really appreciate to you guys to providing us such a great experience and knowledge about the animals. You guys are absolutely rock.!

  3. Love this zoo! Have been many times and will keep coming back. Large animal enclosures for a large variety of animals. Perfect size to easily view all the animals without it being too overwhelming or tiring. Accessible and family friendly. Informative staff. Highly recommended.

  4. What a fantastic time we had here. You get to collect the stamps around the park and there are talks about the animals the kids loved feeding the camel. And love that he food is in a ice-cream cone made it easier for the kids to feed the ostrich. Really great day out.

  5. Highly recommended if you want to see kangaroos and kuala. You can buy food for the animals and even interact with them. Loved the kangaroos, they are so calm and loved to be pet!
