Food was good however all three of our dishes were made of same gravey -malai kofta, shahi paneer and kadai paneer. If we ordered just one of them, it would be a 4 star.

Lot of seating available and lot of parking outside.

There were mix reviews about the place still I decided to give it a try. As I drove from Bicheno and reached the town by 9pm, pretty much verything was closed except for the fast food chains.

I ordered Lamb Rogan Josh, Garlic Naan, and Naan. To my surprise, I had to buy rice separately but that was on me because in US, we get complimentary rice. Anyway, I lliked the curry and lamb was properly cooked. All in all, the food that I tried was good but cannot speak for other dishes by other customers. I am a traeveller and have been to 16 different countris (excluding US and India where I live) and my review is 100% honest and transparent.

The place was good and I have attached some pictures for others to see. Got a chance to speak with the owner and he communicated well with me and shared a few tips about Australia and Devenport.

We have been here 3 times, and we love the food and the staff. The prices are more than reasonable. The decor is a little basic but I am sure as they are more established it will improve. definately the best Indian in Devonport.

  1. I ordered take away. The naan bread was doughy in some places, the butter chicken was meant to be medium spicy. However they used way to much sugar so you couldn’t feel the slice it was mild! There was a lot of sauce compared to chicken! The chicken was burnt and had charcoal which is not good for health! The fact that the inside of the chicken was dry! I’ll give it another go next time in town and try there vegetarian Curry. It cost 29 dollars. Look how much sauce was left! And it wasn’t even full!

  2. The first issue was that the prices for the food displayed at the door were OUTDATED, so we were unpleasantly surprised by the higher prices when we were handed the actual menus.

As we were on a budget, we decided to go with a budget banquet for 2 people to split amongst the 4 of us with additional bread, and I made sure to inquire if that was possible before placing the order. When we placed the order, the server accepted the order, but another server later approached us that we HAD to get the budget banquet for all 4 people. We would have had no issue if this was communicted to us beforehand when we asked, but the unpleasant manner in which this was dealt with ruined the experience for us, so we cancelled our order. We found this experience very unprofessional, deceitful, and unpleasant.

  3. Had the worst and the most horrible Butter Chicken dish. When we informed the cashier and the chef their attitude was even worse as they could not accept feedback. Their response was merely that their dishes are the best in the country and everyone loves it. I would rate the food and the service zero out of ten

  4. Unfortunately, the overall experience was disappointing. The butter chicken dish was not as expected at all, was way too sweet and not balanced. The portion size was also relatively small compared to the pricing. Hopefully the feedback helps to improve the quality and taste of the food and overall customer experience.

  5. By far the best Indian we’ve had in Devonport, and it’s up there with the best we’ve had anywhere in the realm of ‘local Indian place’.

The vibe is casual and welcoming. It’s not high class fine dining – which is great by us, because we come with young kids and can’t always guarantee they’ll behave 😉 If you’re wanting polished and expert waitstaff at the top of their game you won’t find it here, but you’ll be really nicely taken care of by people who treat you like family.

Having said that, the flavours are fantastic, and the vegan/vegetarian options are extensive, which is rare in Devonport.

Our kids absolutely love the ‘butter’ (makhani) curries. They are fussy when it comes to food with spice, so we love that this is one place we know they will eat.

I’ve read in some of the reviews that the naan was mushy but we have never experienced this – it’s always been perfectly crisp on the outside and chewy on the inside. Delicious!

The prices are on the higher side if dining in, but so is everything in Tassie. In our opinion, the love and homemade quality is evident, and they don’t skimp on anything.

Definitely give it a go if you’re in Devonport. It’s standout stuff!
