5 Replies to Experience 10 Top-rated Cake Shop in Perth, Western Australia
I first discovered Golden Bakery in the 90’s when I first came here for work. This was before Pie Eating was a serious endeavour and Facebook pie pages did not exist. I thought they were a pretty good pie.
Now we have Facebook pages like Perth Pie Hunters, we are getting serious. Reading the reviews, I was not sure if these guys rated or not. Today, work brought me to within a kilometer of Golden Bakery at lunch time so I thought I would refresh my memory.
I again went for the Cheese and Bacon double, pie and sausage roll.
The pie was enormous! Weighing in 364g it was maybe the heaviest pie I have weighed. I do prefer quality over quantity, so I dug in for the taste test. I was not disappointed. This pie had everything you want in a cheese and bacon pie. I would have liked more visible cheese but the flavour was present and it had a real piece of bacon in there. The meat and gravy was predominantly mince and it had a slightly sweet taste which I enjoyed.
The cheese and bacon sausage roll was also very good
Best steak & kidney pie. Lots of meat and delicious sauce. Crispy delicious. Great range of sweets too. Don’t do anywhere else for pie and coffee. Seating inside or outside. Offsite parking.
One You f the best pie shops in Perth! Chilli pies are fantastic with heaps of jalapeño! Nice freshly made sandwiches and great pastries too!
Great service – the ladies were incredibly friendly and prompt to help me with my order.
Great food – lots on offer, both hot and cold food selections available. I ordered a cheese and salad roll, and it tasted great. My only complaint is that they didn’t have any spinach.
Venue and atmosphere – the venue was clean and well kept. It was really busy, but staff were prompt meaning no-one waited long whilst still getting great services. There are tables outside if anyone wants to eat there, otherwise it’s easy to-go deli meals.
I’ve had a few pies here 1) cheese and bacon 2) steak and kidney and 3) steak and mushroom . I rate the pies highly, they are plump with filling, have a nice crumbly crisp pastry from top to bottom and are kept/served at a perfect temperature for eating (which for me is almost too hot when you start eating, but quickly becomes nice enough to wolf down with an iced coffee chaser).
I’ve also eaten a chicken burger from here which was pretty average; it was very fresh (salad and bread) though a lot of crumb around very thin chicken. That isn’t necessarily indicative of bad quality, just not my personal preference… I like the chicken to be the star in a “chicken burger” as much as I would like crumbs to be the star in a “crumb burger”.
Appears to be a popular bakery with lots of sweet options too that appear to be fresh and appetising.
I would recommend this as a bakery that will likely stock whatever you are looking for at a reasonable price. Overall quality is medium to high and importantly, it’s consistent. Worth a look and worthy of a chance to treat yourself.
