Decent overall – Mela serves good Indian food, and they have many options for vegetarians. However the prices are high (and even then the curries dont come with rice as standard) and the service is a bit slow.

The vegetarian options at the restaurant were diverse and flavorful, offering a satisfying range of dishes. The creative use of fresh ingredients showcased a thoughtful approach to plant-based dining. However, some items lacked depth in seasoning, but overall, it’s a commendable effort catering to vegetarian preferences.

Loved the setting and ambience, this is cos it was less busy and I prefer quiet settings. I suppose that’s either good or bad, depending on individuals. I had the non-vegan Thali, which is the street food platter, loved the bread, loved only a single of the about 4 sauces on the platter. The rest was very average. Food is affordable as well.

The curries at Mela are delicious and their paneer is the best I’ve had. My table ordered the vegetarian banquet and the only thing that disappointed was how I didn’t have enough room in my stomach to eat more! The banquet came with free refills on the curries so it was excellent value. The leftovers tasted just as good for lunch the next day!

I normally get the vegetarian thali to takeaway, which is also excellent value. Dining in was great because we got to eat piping hot fresh naan.

  1. The staff were friendly and the service was fast. Good ambience as well. But the food was a bit disappointing. The mango lassi was delicious. However, the Kaju Mushroom Matar masala and the dal tadka were not upto the mark.

  2. I had the tandoori salmon, which is only meant to be a side dish but I had a small appetite so it was basically a main for me, the flavour basically exploded in my mouth, the yoghurt spice and herb marinade is GORGEOUS!! the salmon is soft and perfectly cooked, served with some rice and some sauce on the side.. every mouthful was bloody amazing, I even took it home for leftovers and it was still amazing. the mango lassi also totally hit the spot, so solid and well balanced in sweetness. it was $37 all up which might be a bit pricey but it was so worth it, I will be sure to come back one day to try their other dishes!!

  3. I ate here several times over my stay in Perth. It became my regular! Truly lovely Indian food and I can see why many Indian families also come here. It’s a classy layout & decor in a classy location but with quite reasonable prices. A particular favourite of mine is the Haandi Chicken special. Also the Kuchumber salad and photo attached. Great service and staff but with a particular shout out to Sharn for her care and attentiveness!

  4. Well I ordered for chicken tikka masala, was not so great in taste also, I specifically told not to add cream and butter, I am not allergic but if cooked longer leaves too much oil, which I think they did not added, but guess replaced it with double quantity of oil.

    Please improve………

    Thanks

  5. We stumbled across this place while hoping to find somewhere for dinner when everything seemed closed on new years day. They were really busy but fit us in. They took our order and our food was out in 5 minutes. The food was excellent, super tasty and sufficiently spicy to meet our tastes. The service was good, although we did have to ask for my husband’s kingfisher beer three times. It was a little noisy because it was so busy but we were fine with that – we were just happy to be fed!
