Overall this would be an average patisserie for Sydney – yet Sydney prices in Tasmania which seems too high relative to other establishments here which hold a lower price point backed by quality. I was rather disappointed that the cream fillings seemingly weren’t real cream or at least did not taste as such.

Apple Strudel: [7.610] good crispy and hot filo pastry, not too sweet, spiced apple filling was nice.

Hazelnut dacquiose: [4/10], the cookie layer was nice but the cream seemed fake – Not a rich dairy cream, not sure why this would be the case, otherwise sugar heavy and lacking depth. The $12.95 price is unjustified for half the dish (the cream) failing to meet basic standards of a premium-priced item.

Raspberry crunch: [6.5/10] average rich caramel dessert, the raspberry layer had a bit of acidity to cut through and a distinct flavour which was pleasant.

First visit and it was really good, had savoury and sweets and loved it all. Got to fit another visit in before we leave. Service a little slow, but they were busy, friendly, and helpful staff.

Nice little dessert shop to stop into for a sweet treat and in a very convenient location. The apple strudel was soooo good. We went back twice! Hot Chocolate was just okay.

Was recommended this place by my aunt and the food was delish. We ordered the chicken & creamed leek pie, coddled eggs, smoked ham & cheese croissant and a beef & onion burek. The service was superb and I would have loved to order their pastries if I wasn’t so stuffed after our meal. The location is conveniently near Salamanca Place.

  1. Local cafe that has a wide selection of bakery and pastries.

Although the meat pie is not my favourite, the fillings, in general, are generous but on the dry side. I like it juicier. This is a personal preference.

I like their crispy outside and soft inside croissants the most; the croissant is served warm, with Jam and a generous amount of Butter.

We spent about AUD60++ for three adults and two kids for lunch.

  2. Had the lamb and rosemary pie & a hot latte.

Coffee is good, not overly sour/acidic. Ordered to go and it was made extra hot too!

Lamb and rosemary pie were great! Nicely flakey pastry dough, soft lamb, nice thick gravy. Overall well seasoned and flavours work! Served with tomato relish.

  3. Great find in Hobart! Jackman & Ross has a great vibe which you can feel from the street. The smell of freshly baked goods is a real tantaliser! Of the bakeries I did get to try around my Tassie road trip, this was likely the best – it lived up to it’s promise.

Our troop arrived 10am for brunch and the place was overflowing onto the street. We found a small table, and after a little wait helpful waitresses came to help us pull together space for a group of 12.

We ordered lots of- the wallaby pie, scallop n wakame pie, various pastries and croissants. All were delicious. Stand outs to me were the pies – pastry was light, crisp. They could be held without the insides spilling out. They were flavourful.

The scallop and wakame pie here was THE best scallop pie I tasted from my trip from Launceston, to Freycinand Bicheno, to Hobart, with many stops around and between (sorry every other bakery I tried)! Pie pastry crisp. Scallop taste was clean and sweet. Great accompaniment with veges. Good green curry hit. Not too saucy, but enough to coat the ingredients and let you taste flavour without compromising integrity of the pastry.

  4. I came across this place online and heard it’s a great bakery worth checking out. So, on our first day in Hobart, we decided to give it a try for brunch. We ordered an iced cappuccino, fresh orange juice, a sausage roll, and a lamb with rosemary pie served with relish. The iced coffee was absolutely delicious, but unfortunately, the orange juice had a slightly bitter taste. The food, on the other hand, was super tasty and both dishes were accompanied by a fresh salad on the side.

  5. The best pie I’ve ever had! I ordered the King Lamb pie and it was delicious. Even the tomato relish that comes with the pie was insane. After the savoury pie I ordered the blueberry tart and was just as happy with it. Friendly service and great vibes.

Highly recommend if you visit Hobart
