I can’t visit Melbourne without swinging by and eating some of the freshest oysters around. It’s amazing how many varieties of oysters and other seafood you can buy from here and consume on the spot. Oysters are reasonably priced and come from various oyster farming regions and attract a huge crowd. If you love oysters and seafood in general then you can’t miss coming here! Seriously love this place!

If you love seafood, you should definitely try this place. Based in south Melbourne market this place has lots of good food options. The queue during the weekend is insane but not long before it’s your turn. I guess the food is worth the wait and food comes out pretty quick too. We were so full by the time we saw this place but had to try the garlic prawns skewers and it was mind blowing. Ousters were fresh and just yummy.

Good food, good price, good service, happy stomach what else you need!

    Must try

Long long lines of people wait to make their fresh seafood purchases from this joint. Clearly super popular and a testament to the freshness of the produce. The oysters look like the most popular item. Have to be patient to buy from here.

Had to get fresh oysters when we’re at South Melbourne Market. Oysters were really good and reasonably priced. The plate of cooked King prawns were $9.90. The shared condiments on the table provided were amazing. Such a wide variety of sauces to choose from, including sriracha, sour and spicy seafood sauce, different types of tabasco, and even crispy fried shallots.

My happy place. The seafood is amazing and fresh. It has the widest range and great facilities (table with sauces, lemons etc). Just be careful of overcharging. Whether it’s by honest mistake (wrong type of oyster), unscrupulousness, or carelessness, be careful before you tap and pay.

  1. The Footscray Market is big market in the inner west of Melbourne. Being very close to the train station makes it very easy to go and visit. Prices in the Footscray market are marginally lower than you would find anywhere else. The market has unique smells in different places where you walk through. Overall the Footscray market is a place that I would recommend to someone who is looking to go to a market.

  2. The sade news – only one week to go! A visit to the Footscray Market (whillst I am visiting Melbourne) was again a nice experience – seeing all those fresh vegetables and the delicious selection of fruits. Also, the butchers and the delicatessen stalls display all the goods. The seafood stalls amazing – the variety great. So that will be for many a last visit – sad – all the classic interesting places disappear ing. So hurry up and check it out!

  3. This must be Melbourne’s best kept secret. Incredible array of exotic verges,,fresh herbs, nuts, fruits etc. & seafood etc. etc., The little in-house eateries deserve a Michelin star. Highly recommend it for excellent value & atmosphere. Photo of my purchase to follow..

  4. A market with a variety of fresh produce, seafood, and other items such as clothing and flowers. There is also a small food court inside which has a variety of Asian restaurants.
