4 months agoI needed to exchange my rental car since my wife injured her back while traveling. I called the main reservations number and after a few minutes was suggested I call the closest office rather than drive back to the international airport desk. I spoke with Sonya at the Victoria branch in Auckland, who understood my situation and genuinely seemed concerned. In a matter of five minutes without having to discuss the matter with anyone else it was done! She made me feel special, can’t thank her enough. She wasn’t there the following day when I went to pick up the car but the woman representative who was, handled everything quickly took. I just signed off and drove away in the perfect size Rav 4 Toyota. I did noticed while there that all the other agents handled their customers with warmth and professionalism! Great Victoria office! Great customer service!2 years agoThis is the second dreadful Budget experience that has happened to me Car had sand on seat, was dusty and dirty but I was once again charged more than the written quote and twice! Not an ‘imprint’ and charge but an Imprint and 3 charges So. Apparently because I picked up the car 20 minutes early (although when I arrived I did say that I will just wait) I was charged $300 extra. I wonder if I am entitled to a refund for returning early? Seriously the Customer Service people need to start telling people the traps! Last time Budget/Avis5 years agoI honestly have no idea why there’s so many bad reviews about this place.I called up with my rapid rez number and had a car booked for pickup in an hour. I did a good 500kms in it driving up to coromandel and hot waters beach. No issues with the car, it was in good condition and incredibly clean. When i returned it I’d left a bit of sand in the foot wells along with a lot of bug splatter. I wasn’t charged a cleaning fee, older lady behind the counter was a little grumpy but they were really busy. Young girl for pickup was nothing short of delightful.
The price I was quoted is the price I paid, It was a smooth transaction.
a year agoTerrible experience! I reserved a vehicle and received a confirmation email. I had also received another confirmation email two hours before I was to pick it up. When I arrived they told me they called me to say they cancelled my reservation because there were no cars. I received no phone call and they did not assist me in any way to find another available option. Not sure why they accept reservations when there is no vehicles.When I called to speak with the manager I was met with aggression and she hung up on me during the conversation. Definitely avoid!!
a year agoCar collection was uneventful.Both guys at the counters were helpful and polite – the indian and caucasian gentlemen.
All paperwork completed within 15 mins and off we went.
The car was okay. Nothing to complain about.
Frankly, when i saw so many 1 star reviews, i was concerned. But that was unfounded. Thankfully for me, at least.

Bit of a walk from the airport & I was somewhat irate after being trapped in the airport for nearly 2 hours stuck in massive cues .
The whole experience with the car was pretty good but one major markdown is the fact the car didn’t have a GPS . As a fist time visitor to NZ & my phone off line we had to rely on a back up phone to get around .
I am an old school Holden man & I also drive a D-Max . The Mitsubishi ASX impressed me beyond belief with it’s brilliant performance, tight & precise front wheel drive /steering , excellent fuel economy & a super responsive engine that loves 91 unleaded petrol . Very comfortable & nicely appointed car .
Highly recommended by a hard marker !!
As has often been the case here there was no one at the counter. Someone came from Avis and helped but treated me as a new customer rather than a Fastbreak client. This involved many forms, signatures and delay. The agent was also unhelpful in locating our car giving us a vague wave in the direction of the large garage. Happy with the hybrid vehicle, very economical.
I would have rated a zero if possible. We didn’t get our car even after an hour of waiting in the lobby. Absolutely no contact from the people at the counter of why the car was not available on the time we had requested. We were late for the other reservations we had and so lost money there as well to which budget was not empathetic. I was not the only one waiting for my car and had atleast 5 more people in a similar situation. Please save your self some time and look for other options. This place is useless.
The pickup was smooth and easy. The staff at counter was friendly. However, they charged me extra for fuel service even after returning the car with the same amount of fuel. This is very poor service and exploiting international customers.
Next time, I will think twice before renting from Budget/ Avis
Don’t trust them! My advice if you decide to use them: Block your credit card as soon as you return the rental car! I recieved a quote including excess reduction. Paid for the quote in advance. Collected the car, returned the car, everything good, no mention of any issues or additional costs. Several days later they charged my credit card an additional $150. Why? They decided, after the event, to increase the cost of their excess reduction. Their customer support representative (Jan) seems to think this is reasonable. Imagine if you purchased a grocery item, then days later the store decides the item is worth more than that … so they simply charge your credit card an additional amount several day later.
