If you’re wondering if you should go or not.. let me try persuade you.. DO IT, you won’t find better fish and chips on the coast..

Edit 1. 5 Stars. New day and year. Decent turnaround given the large amount of customers. Bit of a wait but still worth it. Lunchtime visit and had great service. Fish, 100%. absolutely loved it. Will be back!!

Original review. 3 Stars. Small group of us went for a late lunch/early dinner on a Thursday afternoon. It was a little busy but within the 20-30 minutes we waited in line to order, the line grew and was spilling on the footpath.. even with a 7pm closing time, nice to see they were still being served.

Group order of fish, chips, wedges and calamari. The calamari were gold, very nice and definitely something I’d have again. The chips were nice, wedges and fish so so.

There’s a little bit of seating but not really enough for how busy it gets, seating areas could use another bin as the crows and ibis’ were getting in them and definitely need a bit of a clean from time to time. Limited parking as it’s also used by people who settle in for the afternoon to watch the sunsets over the bay. See

My favorite fish and chips place! No matter how busy my travels are on the Gold Coast, I always make sure to come here for a meal. The crispy batter and perfectly cooked fish never disappoint.

Seafood heaven! The fish is always fresh, and though you might have to wait a bit, but it’s totally worth it. Plus, the fish and chips are very voluminous. The staff who served us were very polite—We always stop here after we go for a swim in the ocean!

Great food but very poor service.

I tried Peter’s for the first time a couple years ago after seeing so many pictures and reviews. The food was amazing and fresh, however the service was appalling. I waited in line with a diverse range of customers and was disappointed when it came my turn to be greeted with a disgruntled staff member who’s demeanour and communication changed completely. He spoke in a loud and abrupt tone (assuming I couldn’t speak English based off my appearance). I then watched him promptly perk up and cheerily greet the couple behind me and continue to go between the two, based on the appearance of the customer he was serving.

Well I wanted to give Peter’s another chance, hoping my experience this time would be a bit more positive and went back for some more fresh seafood. While the food was absolutely spot on, the service unfortunately remained unchanged. Exact same experience this time around with the same attitude when ordering.

As a business that’s located in such a prime location with such good food, it’s truly so disappointing to see such a lack in the quality of service.

Multiculturalism and diversity isn’t new in Australia, and it seems it might be worth educating your staff on it.

Great Fish and Chips from Peters Fish Market. We had heard positive reviews so decided to give it a try. Awesome fish and lovely chips, good size portions and $10 for fish of the day. The outside sitting area could do with a bit of attention but the friendly staff and food made up for it.

  1. ONE star for the Fried food/fish n chips. Awful, worst fish n chips I’ve had on the Gold Coast. Fish was foul, from frozen, tasted old, watery, bland and rubbery. Chips and scallop potatoes were equally bad, soggy and just not good. We asked for chicken salt and they didn’t put ANY salt on it instead. We were really embarrassed because we took our friend there who was visiting from Colorado. We should’ve taken him to our local corner fish shop instead. We had just watched the Pelican feeding, were starving and had walked there (3km round trip) so figured we’d just eat there. Absolute tourist trap, plenty of much better local spots around.

Fresh seafood is 4 stars, the oysters are always good, the shrimp/prawns that were peeled were just okay, next time I’ll stick with shell on and peel myself. The sashimi was good. Will have to try their bugs and lobster one of these days.

Pelican feeding is sometimes 5 stars, sometimes 3 (when the guy who talks about the birds a bit and puts on an actual show which is also educational, it’s great), but the other guy just goes out and feeds them, maybe weekdays vs weekends are different. Sometimes the crowd can get annoying and they don’t give the birds the space they need, and parents don’t parent their misbehaving children properly. I would maybe suggest placing temporary stakes or semi circle of rope around the area.

  2. A very delicious fish and chips shop with your classic Aussie vibe. The sashimi was very affordable and fresh. The fish and chips were perfectly cooked and seasoned with the right amount of chicken salt as requested. Service was friendly and fast. Only downside is that parking can be quite difficult if you come right at peak hours and it can be difficult to find a table nearby to eat.

  3. Great experience at Charis, really fresh fish and delicious meals. The daily Pelican feed was well worth seeing too. Would definitely recommend.
Watch out for the bin chickens and other birds when eating outside though as they are very persistent!

  4. Great vibe fresh seafood shop that makes drinks and fresh fish and chips. The better is fresh light and airy and the chips are well seasoned! They have pelican feeding at 130pm daily and that is a great show for the young and old!

  5. Great place with a large selection of fresh seafood. You can also buy food and drinks here.

What is fascinating is that the beach in front of the restaurant attracts many pelicans, and at 1:30 p.m., the staff here feeds them, which attracts even more pelicans. This is a show that lasts about 15 minutes, and the audience comes to see it. The show is free of charge. The staff who feed the pelicans also try to make the show exciting by feeding the pelicans in various directions and using feints to entertain the people in the area.
This is a great sightseeing spot on the Gold Coast, and I highly recommend it!
