Tips for First-Time Op Shop Visitors in Australia
If you’re planning on visiting an op shop (thrift store) in Australia for the first time, here are some tips to make your experience more enjoyable and successful:
- Research the op shop before visiting. Look up their opening hours, location, and any special promotions or events they may have. This will help you plan your visit and make the most of your time there.
- Bring cash. While some op shops may accept card payments, many may only accept cash. It’s always a good idea to have some small notes and coins on hand.
- Go with a shopping list or specific items in mind. Op shops can be overwhelming with their vast selection of items. Having a list or specific items in mind will help you stay focused and make it easier to find what you’re looking for.
- Take your time and be patient. Op shops can be messy and disorganized, so it may take some time to find what you’re looking for. Take your time and browse through the racks and shelves thoroughly. You never know what hidden gems you may find!
- Inspect the items before purchasing. Since op shop items are pre-loved, it’s important to inspect them for any damage or defects before purchasing. Check for stains, rips, missing buttons, or broken zippers. Some op shops may not accept returns or offer refunds, so it’s better to be thorough before making a purchase.
- Don’t be afraid to negotiate. Unlike regular retail stores, op shops may be willing to negotiate on prices, especially if you’re buying multiple items or if an item has been in the store for a while. It never hurts to ask!
- Donate your unwanted items. Op shops rely on donations to keep their stock replenished. If you have any unwanted items that are in good condition, consider donating them to the op shop you’re visiting. It’s a great way to give back and support a good cause.
With these tips in mind, you’ll be well-prepared for your first op shop adventure in Australia. Happy shopping!

5 months agoMassive floor space that as a general rule is very nicely set out and has a great feel to it. Well lit and has decent space between sections. My one real complaint is that all sizing is lumped together, with plus sizes separate to 14-16 & below, so you need to give yourself time to go through everything.
They have literally everything with ladieswear being the biggest stock, plenty of shoes & accessories.
It’s a really lovely space, well set out and worth a visit, just give yourself plenty of time .
Parking onsite which is great
a month agoTwice recently i have taken donations here and both times the blokes who were at the drop off area where rude. The first time they were busy because they had just opened but he still didnt have to be rude in his tone. And this second time i pulled up and i smiled and was friendly as i always am and he just said what in it (i had boxes) i explained and hes like “over there” he sat there watching me. And was very rude in his tone. I do not like their customer service. There is never any reason to be rude in such a way.4 months agoTake yourself shopping at this location. Love the staff and if you need assistance they are your friends too.3 months agoCarpark is just pure kaos – a fair warning it’s often full and takes far too much maneuvering – prices are average / on the high side, the renovation is nice and all but just loses that op shop experience and is too ‘corporate’ not one that we visit often for those reasons.4 months agoNASTIEST AND RUDEST staff member. Firstly I walked into the wrong area because I’d never been there before and was yelled at by a lady “you can’t come in here”….. I apologised and then told her I’d never been there before and didn’t know where to go. Upon leaving I grabbed 2 large bags from my car I was donating, and handed them to an older man at the front who was loading donation bags!He snatched it off me and I said “be careful it’s heavy”! He quickly snapped at me and said “when you donate to a charity can you be a bit more thoughtful and not make the bags so heavy??? We’re all getting older here”!!!”..
I was shocked. I then when to my car to donate a smaller bag and asked him when to put it. He rudely said to me “just put it there” and stormed off!!! I couldn’t BELIEVE how rude he was especially because the clothes I was donating were BRAND NEW, TOP QUALITY dresses and shoes! Maybe say “Thankyou” next time you rude man! Kindness goes a long way! Aren’t you in the volunteer business?

4 months agoOverpriced, !More expensive than actual antique stores for below average items3 months agoThe Indian who runs the joint needs to get a reality check. Prices are outrageous3 years agoSpecifically to their Containers For Change section…certain staff just cannot count accurately. The amount of double handling is ridiculous. So I tried the bag and drop system with them and didn’t get even a quarter of my money back. When I inquired they pointed at a massive pile of bagged bottles and said maybe it was there or maybe the bag broke. I called the scheme and they promised my refund. I only received a token amount. So decided to give them one last chance. First time went ok. Second time they miscounted again! Worst part is that they throw them into the bays so quickly that you cannot demand a recount. In frustration I went to Tomra. Such a dream in comparison. Can’t get miscounted there. Its all automated. And even when it is busy there is room to move and it is still much quicker because you don’t have to sort anything and you don’t have to take the lids off your bottles and you don’t get all sticky and dirty. AND their disabled park is right near the door.5 years agoI think it’s appalling the amount Lifeline are charging on items when you can go to Kmart and get items if not the same but cheaper! It’s a charity store ripping off the poor, how do you expect the poor to be able to afford those prices(dog blankets $10-$30, children clothing $10+ an item & I’d hate to know adults clothing prices!) no matter what brand the item is does not matter because that means nothing to the poor that need warm clothing or blankets for there familys!
I’m absolutely disgusted in the Lifeline stores!!
2 years agoGreat op shop. Ashame that the workers have to put up with all the noise from the bottle return next door.

Lifeline vintage wardrobe is the place to go if you’re looking for vintage clothing, fascinators for the races, evening wear, bridal wear or something a little bit unusual.
For someone who barely has a negative bone in her body, it saddens me to leave a review like this. The pricing of items instore is absolutely appalling. I see damaged items with ridiculous price tags all the time, all because they are considered a “good brand” by the tagger. There is no negotiation with damaged goods. Items upstairs that are missing pieces are priced just as bad. Including ripped and drawn on books. Unfortunately I have also experienced quite negative interactions with the workers. Dirty looks, snide remarks and even gossiping and bringing down customers in the store when backs are turned. These items are given to lifeline as a donation. Anko = Kmart. You should not be pricing fast fashion at excessive prices. I think an overhaul is needed.
I haven’t been here in a few months but I was gobsmacked at how expensive it’s gotten! Old, ratty clothes with holes and frayed edges were the same price as brand new clothes from Kmart. So disappointed! 🙁
The vintage clothing is fantastic.
If you love vintage? You will also love their wigs.
There is so much to see and so much to do in this fantastic vintage shop.
Pro tip: you could easily get the same items brand new and for less and Kmart.
