Treasure Hunting 101: Common Items in Australia’s Op Shops
Op shops, also known as thrift stores or second-hand stores, are popular in Australia for their affordability and sustainability. These shops sell a wide variety of items, including clothing, furniture, household appliances, books, and accessories. Here are some of the common products you can find at op shops in Australia:
- Clothing: Op shops offer a vast selection of clothing for men, women, and children. From everyday wear to formal attire, you can find a range of styles and sizes at affordable prices.
- Books: Op shops often have a dedicated section for books, including fiction, non-fiction, children’s books, and cookbooks. You can find popular titles, classics, and even rare finds at a fraction of the original price.
- Furniture: Op shops are a great place to look for pre-loved furniture. From couches and dining tables to bookshelves and bedside tables, you can find unique pieces to furnish your home without breaking the bank.
- Electronics: Many op shops sell second-hand electronics such as televisions, DVD players, stereos, and even computers. These items are often tested to ensure they are in working condition before being put on sale.
- Accessories: Op shops offer a range of accessories, including handbags, wallets, hats, scarves, and jewelry. You can find vintage pieces, designer labels, and trendy accessories to complement your outfits.
- Household items: Op shops are a treasure trove of household items such as kitchenware, cutlery, glassware, and home décor. Whether you’re looking for a teapot, a set of plates, or a decorative vase, you can find unique and affordable options at op shops.

a year agoIf you are old enough to remember how op shops ‘used’ to be, you will love this place. It’s a hidden little gem. The pricing is very good. It’s as far away from those over priced, boutique op shops as you can get. I have visited a few times and always leave with some little treasure. It’s worth the little rummage through different parts of it. Staff were really lovely as wella year agoSome prices are great- tshirts for $1.50! But some other things were very high priced. Bits of everything, a lot of nice clothes. 2 areas- one has furniture and records etc and other side is clothes, homewares etc. Staff were friendly.3 months agoLovely staff. Variety of reasonablely priced secondhand goods and bits and pieces. Hard to find a parking spot as surrounded by workshops and mechanical repairs. Well worth a visit.3 months agoThe CCA group are a vibrant, hard-working community group that deserves our full support. So donate items that can be reused.. (not rubbish) so the group can continue to help those in need,,.2 years agoThe Caboolture Community Action Op Shop is a little hidden gem tucked away just off Morayfield Rd. A great and sometimes eclectic mix of everything you love to find on your op shop expeditions. Really great pricing and the staff are always super friendly!

a month agoNothing wrong with the store or staff it’s the pricing that got me going hmm. This store has now joined many others in pricing recycled donated items above new prices. Kids clothes were cheaper at best and less new.3 months agoVery rude, judgemental people, they actedike the donated free goods were coming out of there own pocket,if I had donated items to be given to people for free and they were treated so poorly I would be so upset, and the judgement and questions asked when we are in a cost of living crisis and if you need food assistance is so shameful, especially for people that should be doing gods worka month agoApparently aren’t accepting donations on a Saturday, the lady at the counter was quite rude when telling me this. The toys I was going to donate are now in a skip bin.2 years agoDisappointed since this is a great shop and my first visit was great, lovely staff and lots of unique items.. However today one of the staff members was quite rude and condescending when I was simply trying to take a mirror(that I was purchasing) off a rack because the other ladies were busy. Rather than approaching me and asking me if I needed a hand, she stormed over to me and scolded me like a child ? which just makes me want to avoid this store all together.a year agoI am a volunteer worker for Vinnies at Morayfield and love my job. Nice clean shop excellent staff to work with and one awesome boss who treats her workers like family members. I wouldn’t be happy working any where else Vinnies is like my second home.

Be carefully of the manager here.Thr shop is great. And every thing is half price now
Great shop genuine bargains not picked over like most op shops are now
Been meaning to check this op shop out for a while and was pleasantly surprised. Small, yes.. but it’s what an op shop should be! Great finds at great prices. Staff were friendly. Will definitely be a regular shop on my list now.
Horrible, couldn’t check out whole store due to them having so much stuff and not being wheelchair accessible. Do not go here if u use mobility aids as you won’t be able to look at everything. Never going back.
