How to Donate to an Op Shop in Australia
If you have items that you no longer need or want, donating them to an op shop is a great way to give back to your community and help those in need. Op shops, short for “opportunity shops,” are typically run by charitable organizations and sell donated items to raise funds for various causes. If you’re interested in donating to an op shop in Australia, here’s how you can do it:
- Find a local op shop: Look for op shops in your area by searching online or using directory websites. You can also ask friends, colleagues, or neighbors for recommendations.
- Check the op shop’s donation policy: Each op shop may have different guidelines for accepting donations. Before donating, check if they accept the items you have and if there are any specific restrictions or requirements.
- Prepare your items: Sort and pack your donations into boxes or bags. Clean and launder the items if necessary. It’s important to donate items that are in good condition and can be resold or used by someone else.
- Visit the op shop or drop-off points: Some op shops have designated drop-off points where you can leave your donations. Alternatively, you can bring your items directly to the op shop during their operating hours.
- Complete the donation process: When you arrive at the op shop, inform the staff that you have donations to make. They will guide you on where to leave the items or may assist you in unloading them if needed.
- Consider getting a receipt: Op shops are usually registered charities, and they may provide receipts for the items you donate. These receipts can be used for tax purposes, so ask the staff if you’re eligible to receive one.

a year agoUsed to be my all time favourite mission shop, but the attitude and service from some of the volunteers is appalling.. You can definitely tell they don’t care about their customers supporting the local city mission. Makes you feel like you’re an inconvenience when you get served. Very upsetting to say the least when I prefer to drive 15 minutes to Ulverstone City Mission instead of stopping in.2 years agoA great and well stocked shop! Friendly staff! Lots of range! Great Book and DVD section, which is well priced! Clothing is not expensive! Well worth a visit!a year agoI felt judged and scared of the staff. You get these items for free but charge way more than it’s worth. I came there with a simple request but was rudely declineda year agoGood shop. I got a couple of bargains. Lots of clothes, toys etc.3 years agoSurprisingly large on the inside. Nicely arranged, helpful guy at the desk. My kids love these shops, so full of interesting stuff that you won’t find anywhere else.

5 Replies to Op Shop 101: The Top 9 Biggest in Devonport
One of the better appointed op shops in down town Devonport. Not sure about some of the other reviews on here – perhaps they are confused with another Salvos? This is a large shop which is well organised, which stocks haberdashery, a huge amount of clothing including wedding dresses, shoes and jewelry, a tidy library of books, DVDs and puzzles complete with seatin so you browse at your leisure, kitchenware, some furniture (limited) and they even had a bike in stock when I was there! And you can recycle your old mobiles at this shop.
Large, beautifully laid out and well stocked shop! Great selection of other, household items, DVDs and books! Well worth a visit.
Amazing stock. Vast CD/DVD collection, there were even some CD-ROM and DVD-ROM PC games there, there is also some xbox 360, ps2, ps3 and wii games scattered around.
great op shop. they have a wide selection of clothes that are sorted into different categories with clear signage to help sort through everything. they have kitchenware and a dressing room. lots of options such as towels, etc.
Always a great selection of Products, Neat and Didy. Prices are always the best part. Would recommend.
