Very safe swimming beach for young and old. Great broadwalk along the waterfront with several seats to take a moment to enjoy the views and happenings. Bring a picnic dinner and enjoy the fantastic sunsets.

Beautiful setting, laid back atmosphere. Can swim, snooze on beach, fish, take a boat ride, play ball with kids, putt putt golf and other attractions nearby. At weekend, food & craft markets a few minutes walk, accessible public toilets & change facilities.

Pilot Bay is more fun than the maon beach. Something I enjoy doing is eating hot chips and occasionally throw one for the seagulls until an army of hundreds of seagulls surround me. Then, I walk down the boardwalk, seagulls in tow, and casually assert dominence.

5 Replies to The 10 Biggest Beach in Tauranga, New Zealand

  1. Beautiful setting for walks along the beach front and great playgrounds for the kids and adults to enjoy . Looking at the scenery is spectacular to see the Mount and wharfs across the other side .

  2. Great, calm freedom camping spot for two selfcontained campervans with a beautiful panorama to the Mount Manganiu. It is closed in the evening around nine o’clock but they open it around 5 AM. It has a clean toilet too.

  3. Cool park for the kids, parking was on the smaller side so had to park on the street. The small kids slide is made from stainless and in direct sunlight, thus steaming hot, so not the best design there. Other than that, lots of things for the kids to play on and a nice beach with lots of rock pools and crabs.

  4. Lovely park with great playground for the kids with ice cream and light meal available at the park. Beautiful view of the harbour and Mount Maunganui. Long walk way for strolling, running or cycling. Lovely beach stretch too for playing, swimming, standup paddling or kayaking.
