in the last weekMad Monkey Central is an amazing hostel if you wanna meet people. I really enjoyed the outside common area. The rooms and bathrooms are nice and clean. Staff members are always down to help you whenever. For sure would recommend the hostel to other travelersa week agoMad Monkey Central is my favourite hostel in Cairns. I really enjoyed the outside common area. The big kitchen, rooms & bathrooms are nice and clean. Staff members are always down to help you whenever. For sure a hostel I will recommend to fellow travellers.3 months agoMade my time in Cairns incredible! This hostel exceeded all expectations, the atmosphere was inviting and it was easy to settle in and make friends as a solo traveller! The reception staff were lovely and did everything they could to help out and make my stay as good as possible! On top of that, the hostel bar might have been the best part! The bar manager Jess was so friendly, helping everyone to feel included, with games and even a really good pub crawl at the end of every week!
And when my time here was coming to an end the hostel Travel desk were super helpful when it came to planning my move!
I can’t thank this hostel and it’s staff more! loved my stay, recommend to everyone heading to Cairns and will definitely be back!
a month agoSeems like more a place for if you’re staying long term in Cairns. Or perhaps if you just want to party and don’t care about anything else. Place was not very clean and quite smelly. Powerpoints in room didn’t work. Only 1 toilet shared between 2 dorms and 2 private rooms. Big kitchen and breakfast was good.Someone also used a key to come into our private room in the middle of the night. Weird. Plenty of nicer hostels to stay at in Cairns
a month agoThe perfect hostel for any backpacker. Being a solo traveller im always looking for a hostel that has a good social, and this spot was perfect. it has daily activities and a huge common area with a pool that’s cleaned daily, or if you did want some private time there’s outdoor beds which were good for napping or just good for recharging the social battery. Every evening the bar opens up and the common area gets packed, making it the perfect place to mingle and meet some unexpected friends, some of which were the staff as they’re always around to help. As the hostel has its own bar, there were a couple mornings where I felt rough but waking up to American style pancakes every morning is definitely a luxury I was getting used to, sorting me out for the day Definitely going to stay here again when i come back to cairns!!! Big up the mad monkey team!!

Great party hostel! The rooms are clean. The kitchen space is big and there is plenty of communal space. Met some great people here! If you’re a girl I’d suggest the female dorm rather than mixed.
The best part is the pool bar. The Gilligan’s Sunday session is the best! My favourite day of the week in Cairns.
Music plays until late – 3am – so if you want a good night of sleep, ask for a room on the street side of the building!
I gotta say this nightclub exceeded my expectations. Great sound system and vibe. Very diverse crowd, informal, some people wearing costumes, everyone just dancing and having a good time. I don’t remember the last time I laughed so hard. It is an attraction on its own, worth checking it out.
Great hostel, crowd is diverse, lots of young people. Great price for a 4-bed female dorm room. However, music was loud till 3am so this is not the place to stay if you want a quiet night to sleep lol. Overall, great place with great staff.
What a rave, This place is jam packed with activities and its location is top. If you are seeking an accomodation that’s in the midst of all the happenings, this is the place to be!
However, I would not consider this “5 Star” so much as I expected more in terms of the aesthetics and amenities provided in the room comparable to that of a true 5 star hotel.
Also check out their foam parties! Top notch.
So my review is written as a drunk individual in his drunk state. I thought this bar had a great atmosphere with an inclusive wrestling match. However, when it came time to find my friend, I was looking around the venue and got approached by security. I was then immediately kicked out, banned from reentering, and not allowed to dance on the premises. I believe this bar has a problem with backpackers. Locals are ok, but don’t come here as a backpacker or an individual. The security guard warned me of this. This bar failed me! Truly!
I wish it could do more.
It’s so easy, but it became exclusive due to my gender, me appearance, and my will to dance. Epic fail on the bars’ part. Hoping for more. Maybe next time……
