Been twice in the last month first for a standard viewing. Purchased online was easy and then got to the place 10mins before the movie starts and found no staff around. We waited 5mins then just walked to our cinema as per ticket. The seats are dirty and I found skittles and popcorn and melted chocolate on the side of the chairs and the arm area sticky and they have a weird smell. Second time was to try LUX the marketing around made it sound like we were going to get VIP treatment. Far from it. Again no staff it’s like they don’t have a supervisor like they just go for breaks and leave the cinema to fend for itself. There was also someone that was already in a movie and he press the service button noone came so he just came out to get his drink. He also went around the cinema looking for staff to serve. Eventually someone came. No apologies seems like we were an inconvenience to whatever he was doing before. When ordering the food there were many options unavailable. The marketing team at hosts have over sold this experience. Prior to entering the guy said he needed to clean it first but when we got there the was a blob of jam on the arm chair. Popcorn in between the seat smelled like the stardard chairs and the recliner was wooden and it was uncomfortable. I just thought for a LUX experience it is very disappointing. Spend a total of $189 that night. I am so disappointed and disgusted on what was offered. Hoyts you need to run some audits because slyvia is disgusting. Pictures look like a ghost town.

Overall good experience at LUX. The self check kiosk did not appear to work for LUX tickets but the staff at the counter were good and sorted our tickets out. The seats are great, comfortable and they recline a decent amount. The food experience was good. Friendly staff and decent portions. With a LUX ticjet you get 1 free drink and a small popcorn box, good value. Would recommend arriving at least 20mins prior to your movie to place your dine in orders etc. See my photos

It was easy to get the tickets from the self ticketing machine. We could order the snacks and drinks together in purchasing the ticket. The extreme theatre was big enough to enjoy the movie, but the seats were dirty with the stains…

This cinema used to be one of the best in town, but the quality and service has dropped significantly. It has an unpleasant smell and the fabric seats are worn out and uncomfortable. Their ads and menu are misleading – why show hot food menus when they are only available to lux, and misplace price tag on drinks shelves.

This place desperately needs an upgrade. It’s better to just watch movies at other cinemas with the same price but better.

Worst place to take your partner for a relaxing night. Food was sent at wrong times (cold) drinks were wrong and then they forgot her last drink until the end credits rolled. $180 wasted on these idiots!! Never again!!! USELESS ? LUX tickets purchased 3days prior and Still Crap!!!!

  1. Awesome Cinema and the cleanest I have ever been to. The V Lux Lounge seats (leather lazy boys) were so comfy and clean and nicely spaced in pairs. The screen and sound system was on point and really mode you feel part of the movie. The staff are friendly and helpful. The popcorn was a tad too salty for my liking. This is a large cinema complex spaced over multiple stories with a rocket ship lift ?. They also have Gold Class.
It would be even better when the refreshment stand (drinks/snacks) outside cinema 2 re open so you can get more drinks quickly, otherwise you have a bit of walking to do to get more snacks.

  2. After reading other reviews and hearing so much about this cinema, I had high expectations. Unfortunately, I was left utterly disappointed. Other reviewers may have never been to a decent cinema before and were easily wow’d by a mega screen.

    Complex Appearance:
The complex felt eerily abandoned and had an outdated ambiance. It’s evident that it lacks maintenance, which is a stark contrast to the cleanliness and modern feel of other cinemas like Hoyts EntX in Christchurch. They could totally shoot a scene from a horror movie here…

    Navigation:
Once inside, it was challenging to find our way around due to the lack of proper direction and signage.

    Seating:
The seats were far from comfortable. Legroom was insufficient, making for an uncomfortable viewing experience. I was happy to leave and stretch my legs.

    Picture Quality:
Contrary to the claims on their website, the picture quality left much to be desired. It’s quite possible that the descriptions online haven’t been updated in a while, probably like 10 years lol.

    Restroom Facilities:
This was perhaps the worst part of the experience. The toilets were in a deplorable state. An overpowering odor of urine could be detected from the hallway, and upon entering, the situation was even worse. My partner confirmed that the female toilets were equally unpleasant. Couldn’t even breathe.

    Overall:
I cannot in good faith recommend this cinema. There are far better options available where the overall experience is more enjoyable and where basic hygiene is maintained.

  3. This whole complex is a dump. For not using another word.
When we arrived, were not even sure where to go. Walk up and down 2 floors and had to search for someone for indications and still wasn’t clear. Movies inside are old and uncomfortable. The IMAX overrated. Just a big screen. Sound was extremely loud (felt I needed airplugs), and if you sit half way down, we couldn’t see the movie in full, like your eyes can’t make it to see everything because the screen is “on top of you”. We had to move up seats.

Bathroom… Omg, I was desperate to get out because I was gagging of how disgusting the smell was. The girl in the bathroom next to me said the same.

Then, trying to exit the place we got stuck at the end of the stairs to an abandoned site, we couldn’t find the way out, like a horror movie.

This was by far, the worst experience I ever had in a movie.
    Just don’t go.

  4. Big comfy chairs, warm so I didn’t need my blanket. Took our own snacks ,which is a life saver with kids. Thank You Event Cinemas for allowing it or we would not go movies as much.

The staff lady was excellent in service going the extra mile with our situation. Super Bonus for her ⭐⭐

Felt good to see my daughter happy.

  5. Came here to watch Ballad of Songbird and Snakes, had the double day bed experience.

Very clean and well maintained cinema. The concierge can be found on the third level to grab popcorn, drinks and tickets, cinemas are accessible on levels four & five via escalators, spiral stairs or the rocket elevator.

The bed was a nice idea but not very practical for myself, it was nice to stretch my legs at first but felt uncomfortable being unable to sit upright with my legs bent.
