How to Donate to an Op Shop in Australia
If you have items that you no longer need or want, donating them to an op shop (opportunity shop) in Australia is a great way to support a local charity, help the environment, and give someone else the chance to find a bargain. Op shops accept a wide range of items, including clothing, accessories, furniture, household items, and toys. Here are some steps to follow when donating to an op shop in Australia:
1. Choose a charity: There are many charitable organizations that operate op shops in Australia, such as the Salvation Army, St. Vincent de Paul Society, and Red Cross. Decide which charity you would like to support.
2. Research donation guidelines: Check the charity’s website or contact them directly to find out what items they accept. Op shops generally prefer clean, good-quality items that are in working condition.
3. Sort and pack your items: Separate your items into different categories, such as clothing, accessories, household items, and toys. Place them in bags or boxes that are easy to transport.
4. Find a local op shop: Use the charity’s website or a search engine to locate the nearest op shop to you. Some charities have multiple op shop locations, so choose the one that is most convenient for you.
5. Drop off your donation: Take your sorted and packed items to the chosen op shop during their opening hours. If you have a large or heavy donation, you may want to call ahead to make sure they can accommodate it.
6. Obtain a receipt: Ask for a receipt when you drop off your donation. This will allow you to claim a tax deduction if the charity is registered as a deductible gift recipient (DGR).
7. Consider additional support: If you are unable to drop off your donation, some charities offer pick-up services for larger items. You can also consider volunteering your time or making a monetary donation to further support the op shop and the charity’s cause.
Donating to an op shop in Australia is a simple and effective way to give back to your community. It not only helps those in need but also reduces waste by giving preloved items a second life. By following the steps above, you can easily donate to an op shop and make a positive impact.

a month agoA true op shop! A great vibe! Friendly staff. Cheap good quality clothes. My go to op shop while we stopped in Cairns for 2 months?2 weeks agoNo idea why this place has so many positive reviews. The merchandise is well sorted and it’s clear that effort has been put in, but there’s just no good stuff worth buying.2 months agoFor such a small space, it is well organised. Very friendly workers. You can find everything you need. A great place to nab a bargain. Low/ cheap priced op shop. A must visit.a month agoGreat products but I walked past a senior staff member speaking to a couple of volunteer staff members in a very condescending and rude manner….I was absolutely shocked. Volunteers give their time for free and in no way deserve being treated in that manner…..no one does. Shameful.3 months agoGreat op shop for clothes with reasonable prices, not many kids toys or books thou. Really friendly staff.

10 months agoStaff are friendly. Always so thing new. They accept donations here. Lifeline for incredible mental health support. Give to a great cause. But from a great opshop. The superstore has furniture bricks brac and sport gear…not clothing.a year agoA tight turn into the car park when you have busy traffic following. There’s a car parking space very close to the entry making it very hard to locate and then quickly turn in if you haven’t been before. Once in ,to leave a donation you drive in past sales area through active forklift operational area. Once parked there are marked bins to leave your donation and then leave back onto main road with again, car parked on main road close to exit blocking clear view for entry to live traffic. Very happy to leave donation for good cause but entry/exit a bit iffy.8 months agoVery Expensive!!! Better of going to Animal Welfare, they’re actually a charity shop!! Lifeline unfortunately has now become a business. If you’re a pensioner or low income earner, don’t waste your time.a year agoexcellent service. needed one item as holiday people. not on display but they check out the back and found one just checked. both floor and counter staff went out of their way to be helpful. Fantastic guys. wish I could rate you 6/5.6 months agoGood for 2nd hand furniture if you strike the right moment. A lot of cute new cheap import trinkets. Misses the point of an interesting op shop now.

I have been here many times over the last 7 years and purchased some interesting and unique items.
My recent experience was great and the staff delivering the furniture also went above and beyond what any other furniture place would do! Highly recommend and where else do you get stuff delivered and all put together without even asking? Amazing service.
Most unreadable people to deal with The feeling is greed with no comparison not nice people to deal with ever
This family run business is amazing! We moved up from a unit on the Gold Coast to a house in Cairns and needed high quality furniture that didn’t require waiting 8-10 weeks. Sharlyn couldn’t have been more helpful and was fantastic in assisting us to find just the right pieces to help us settle in comfortably. When Steve delivered the furniture up a difficult driveway, he couldn’t have been nicer and friendly. The entire experience reminded me of the incredible customer service that is quite rare today. I also felt good supporting a family run business with a 30 year history instead of a big chain that is so impersonal. I highly recommend CCA Secondhand to anyone looking for great deals on really nice furniture. Thanks again Sharlyn and Steve for taking a lot of stress off out of our post move experience. Cameron
They wouldn’t negotiate the price of a secondhand recliner as ‘they had low stock’. After I loaded it in my car it was clear it hadn’t been cleaned or deodorised by the store as it stunk of smoke which I had to pay $120 to get deodorised. Worst place to buy furniture in Cairns.
Over the years I bought few things from cca. Amazing bookshelf that perfectly fit where needed. Yes was fairly expensive for 2nd hand but I could tell was quality. Bought one real cheap single bed that with bit of love and paint and time I turned into great fun daybed.
I really don’t understand some peoples complaints and reviews. If you don’t like it don’t buy it. Other shops around. Just move on
