2 weeks agoNot just a museum, an experience. The building itself is amazing ! Sections : WW, Pacific islands, volcanoes and earthquakes, antiquity, rocks, contemporary collections about the city of Auckland…Just go, you won’t be disappointed.
2 weeks agoThe best museum to visit in New Zealand thanks to the Māori cultural performance. It started with a beautiful smile and welcome at the ticket counter. You have to do the Māori cultural performance. They were beyond amazing and what was said, taught, sung and performed was so emotional, inspiring, and spot on true. It is not a show, it is a glimpse into a way of life, and you are lucky if you get the chance to experience that.a month agoIf u are a residence of Auckland, u are eligible for free entrance. Working holiday visa holders can also enjoy this benefit. Will be great if u can spend half day here exploring. Unfortunately the T-Rex fossil will be taken down for good from 11 Dec 2023 onwards. We did a guided tour for an hour; highly recommended. I loved the photographic display by Robin Morrison; special photos of the Sth Is….and the people of that time. We need to return; we were there for 3+ hours but just scratched the surface

Nice views from both decks. Crowded but well organized. Worth a 1-2 hour visit. NZ$75 for a couple in Dec 2023 plus add-ons if you want to try the walk or sky jump.
A quick ride to the top via the elevator and outstanding views of Auckland spread out before us. The platform is a little shy of 200m above the ground and for the more adventurous you can do a 360° walk around outside (while attached to a harness) or even simulate a free fall off the side (being slowed by your lines before hitting the sidewalk).
For the less brave, looking down at the tiny cars below, while standing on the thick toughened glass in the viewing platform, might be more than enough to make your heart race.
Very iconic views and definitely worth it if you’re making a trip to Auckland. Great way to see the entire city, grab a cocktail, or dinner reservations. If you eat at the restaurant, you get discounted tickets. Walking along the clear glass floor was a little scary, but super safe. Bungee jumpers can be seen jumping off which is neat to see. Elevators are extremely fast and overall it’s a very easy experience.
While this place is nice to visit and has a great 360 view of the city, there isn’t much to do up there other than see the view. The passage around isn’t very wide which is ok when it isn’t busy, but I can honestly say if I went there when it was packed I would have hated the experience. The price is what your expect from high view towers, like the empire state building on New York or the tower in Japan. I think the price also goes by height so the snow state building costs more :p.
So I’ve one big issue for me is how it can be tight.
The other issue is that if you visit the place during the week, it closes at 8 and the sunset is at 830pm. So basically you won’t get to experience it at night when I think the view would probably be better, (seeing the city so lit up) and you might get to experience the sunset. It also doesn’t open early (930 am) so you can forget about going early to at least experience dawn. So if you are buying a ticket, check when the sunset is, to at least experience that
The other tip, I would say is to go look at the lines to get on, and buy your ticket on a mobile phone (I think there is also free Wi-Fi so even if you don’t have data, you can just use your phone with that). But do not buy the ticket if there is a long line.
So it can be a good experience with a few caveats. We were lucky and for us it was almost a 4 star experience, but I know how most things went well.. although we still didn’t get to go during sunset or night.
A great way to see the whole city and enjoy the sights. It’s also a thrilling time if you want to bungee jump or do the Skywalk which isn’t for the faint of heart. The sky bar is also very enjoyable.The trip to the Sky Tower in Auckland was exhilarating. The panoramic views from the observation deck were breathtaking, offering a stunning perspective of the city and its surroundings. The glass floor added an extra thrill, making it a memorable experience. Well worth it. Great information bites everywhere, and the staff were excellent, friendly and informative. The dining experience is awesome! You can see the 360 degree view of the city while enjoying your dinner an a glass of wine. Cheers!?
