Pros and Cons of Shopping at Woolworth

Woolworths and traditional markets both offer different shopping experiences that cater to different needs and preferences. Here are some pros and cons to consider when choosing between the two:

Woolworth:

  • Pros:
  • – Convenience: Woolworths stores are typically located in easily accessible areas, making it convenient for shoppers to visit.
  • – Wide variety: Woolworths offers a wide range of products, including groceries, clothing, household items, and electronics, providing shoppers with one-stop shopping convenience.
  • – Quality assurance: Woolworths often offers branded products, ensuring a certain level of quality for shoppers.
  • – Online shopping: Woolworths also provides the option for shoppers to purchase items online and have them delivered to their doorstep, saving time and effort.
  • Cons:
  • – Higher prices: Compared to traditional markets, Woolworths products are generally priced higher due to factors such as branding and convenience.
  • – Limited bargaining: Shoppers may not have the opportunity to negotiate prices or bargain with sellers as they would in traditional markets.
  • – Less personal interaction: The shopping experience at Woolworths may lack the personal interaction and connection that can be found in traditional markets.

Traditional market:

  • Pros:
  • – Lower prices: Traditional markets often offer products at lower prices compared to Woolworth, as they usually source directly from producers or wholesalers.
  • – Bargaining opportunities: Shoppers can negotiate prices or bargain with sellers, potentially obtaining better deals.
  • – Fresh and local products: Traditional markets are known for offering a variety of fresh and locally sourced products, allowing shoppers to support local businesses and enjoy a unique shopping experience.
  • – Personal interaction: Shoppers can directly communicate with sellers, forming connections and gaining insights about the products they are purchasing.
  • Cons:
  • – Limited variety: Traditional markets may have a limited range of products compared to larger stores like Woolworth.
  • – Inconvenience: Traditional markets are often located in specific areas, requiring shoppers to travel to reach them.
  • – Time-consuming: Shopping at traditional markets can be more time-consuming due to the need to visit multiple stalls or vendors to find everything on your shopping list.

Ultimately, the choice between Woolworths and traditional markets depends on personal preferences, budget, and shopping needs. While Woolworths offers convenience, a wide variety, and quality assurance, traditional markets provide lower prices, bargaining opportunities, fresh and local products, and personal interaction.

Click and collect area and service needs attention. First time using this service at Waurn Ponds as I usually use Armstrong Creek. No signage directing you to Click and Collect Bay, only telltale sign I’d found the right parking spots were some patches of well-worn green paint. At Armstrong Creek they have a well-lit and signed undercover area that can easily be found because it’s bright green and you can’t miss it but also because they have lots of signage and painted green lines to follow when you first enter car park. I used app to let staff know I had arrived, waited 10minutes but no one showed up and I had to leave in a hurry to get to work. I tried to call them several times over the next few days but no one ever answered so I went back into the store to speak to staff. Order had been put back on the shelf as per their policy due to use-bys etc which I understand but am now out of pocket and waiting for a refund so I can re-buy my groceries. But I think I will stick with Armstrong Creek from now on…

Not sure where to leave this feedback; Naja one of the home delivery drivers was fantastic today. I have a broken leg from being trampled by a horse and he put everything on the bench and made it so much easier. Thanks Naja.

It’s a Woollies. Same same. Sells all the stuff you need at grocery shop time.

This is the second time I bought molded food from this store. First time was garlic bread and today it was Italian cheese. Looks something wrong with their storage or fridges. Both times the products not even close to their expiry date.

Took my 80yo client to her local Woolworths in Highton. As she has a broken arm and cant hold a basket of heavy items and needs support we got a small trolley. After shopping for a few items we pushed small trolley into 15 items or less and stood waiting to be served. An older lady called Dianne (we found out later) told us in no uncertain terms that no trolleys are allowed in that area as it blocks it up. We looked at each other in shock as we weren’t blocking anyone as we were at the 3rd register so we werent blocking anyone. We thought how rude she spoke to us and there’s no sign to say no trolleys so how are we supposed to know. We hadn’t been there before so we were just trying to pay for the shopping in a timely manner because my client suffers from pain. So off we went and waited behind a lady with a huge trolley of goods further down. Which wasn’t ideal!
The next week the same lady who we identified by her name badge this week as Dianne approached us very rudely as we were near but not going towards the 15 items or less saying you can’t come through her register with a trolley. My poor 80yo client with a broken arm in plaster being abused by Dianne 2 weeks in a row is not on. I’ll be emailing head office about Diannes treatment of an elderly, disabled customer.

Busy lunchtime period and only one operator on, everyone, mostly elderly, pushed to self service with massive trolleys of goods. It’s 38c out and forcing people to put through big trolleys of groceries is not on. Terrible service..

Repeat after me, ‘If we’re going to sell plants we need to water them!’
Seriously though, your yellowing and neglected house plants are not doing you any favours. Not only is it cruel, it brings down the aesthetics of the whole store. How lazy are you guys?

Quality of packing bags could of been better.. Ordered paper bags, received online plastic bags.. Please ensure online team are checking to see which bags customers are requesting – and if they can’t supply with chosen bag, maybe leave a note on invoice – No invoice was included too! Thanks!

  1. Parking at 45° would be such an improvement here. Unrelated, but the building to the south of the car park (near the toilets) looks like it used to be a rope weaving place. The spools and long railway-like lines are still there. Next time you’re there, have a squiz, its fascinating.

  2. Ordered delivery for a sick person in Geelong who can’t leave the house.
    Picked everything and payed .
A few hours later I got the email my order has been canceled.
    I did not cancel it.
We really desperately need the food.

    Worst Grocery delivery!
    DO NOT ORDER HERE

  3. Just learned a lesson. Bought wrong chocolates at 18:14pm 26 June 2023. I went back at 18:30pm for return and refund. A young manager came to me and said NO REFUND as the new policy in place now. I have been in Australia for over 35 years and it was the first time I experienced such return and refund policy in Australia.

  4. Nice, clean, very friendly staff. They have reception which is good. It’s bigger store. Highly recommended. I did recommend that they putting bigger signs for Pram Parking. Just this morning as I was getting my son out I noticed a White Toyota Yaris trying to park and I noticed that he didn’t have a child In the car.

People should be booked if they park in Pram Parking or Disabled Parking.

  5. I visited this store last week in search of 2 brands of bone broth which only Woolies sell (in terms of supermarkets), and noticed on the website – in “check stock in local stores function”, best thing ever – that it was the only store in Geelong that had it in stock. I went in person and couldn’t find it on the shelves. I approached the service desk expecting the usual “if it’s not on the shelf then we don’t have it” response, but Charlotte found it on the computer in aisle 95!!! She called Jeremy who knew exactly where that was, I think out the back, and he raced off and brought back several options; he was so helpful and enthusiastic. At check-out I noticed a price discrepancy and once again approached the service desk, where Diana was so friendly and thorough. She too called on Jeremy to check on the correct process and she was so friendly and talked me through each step as she was processing it, during which all 3 of them – Jeremy, Charlotte and Diana – were engaging in friendly and helpful conversation with the best outcome. I cannot remember the last time I experienced such amazing customer service, with such delightful staff members. It was an enjoyable and successful visit to this store. Thanks to all 3 staff members for making me feel that nothing was too much trouble, and restoring my faith in customer service. I have shared this experience with your head office and hope they have a staff award system in place; you are a real credit to your store. Thank you.
