How to Shop Like a Local at Aldi in Devonport
Shopping at Aldi in Australia can be a great way to save money on groceries and household items. However, it may be a bit different from shopping at other supermarkets. Here are some tips and tricks to make your Aldi shopping experience a success:
- Bring a quarter: In Australia, as in other countries where Aldi operates, you will need a quarter coin or a 2-dollar coin to unlock a shopping cart. Don’t worry though, you’ll get your coin back when you return the cart.
- Bring your own bags: Aldi does not provide free bags; you can either bring your own reusable bags or purchase them at the store. It’s a good idea to keep some bags in your car or carry a foldable one in your bag in case you make an impromptu visit to Aldi.
- Use the middle aisle wisely: Aldi is known for its middle aisle, which offers a rotating selection of special buys. Take some time to browse through this aisle as you might find great deals on anything from clothing to kitchen gadgets.
- Check the labels: Aldi offers a variety of products, including many of its own private labels. Be sure to check the labels and compare with other brands if necessary. You may find that Aldi’s private label products are just as good, if not better, than other well-known brands.
- Plan your trip: Aldi stores in Australia often have limited opening hours, so it’s a good idea to plan your trip in advance. Check the opening hours of your local Aldi and try to go at a less busy time to avoid long queues.
- Have a shopping list: It’s easy to get carried away when shopping at Aldi due to the low prices and tempting products. To avoid unnecessary purchases, make a shopping list beforehand and stick to it as much as possible.
Shopping at Aldi can be a fun and rewarding experience if you know what to expect. By following these tips and tricks, you can make the most out of your Aldi shopping trips and save money on your grocery bills.

a month agoI only went in quickly to the bread aisle. I haven’t been in coles for a while & it has changed since it has been remodelled. I was in a hurry so I had to use self serve as the only counter I could see open was busy as it was the one at the smoke counter and a customer was just beginning to be served. What I saw of the store seemed clean, some stock shortages but it seems darker since the upgrade to the store. I know I’m able to serve myself but the self serve is costing people jobs. And the grocery prices aren’t coming down with less staff to serve customers. I’m also old enough to remember when shopping there would be many checkouts open with friendly staff to talk with while checking out. The human interaction has gone with the self serve.3 weeks agoWow! Big shout out to Condor at checkout. So lovely to see someone happy, welcoming and so helpful. Coles you are lucky to have him, please treat him like gold and ensure he stays.2 months agoIf I could give 0 stars I absolutely would no questions asked.
I ordered my order online with home delivery (delivery partner).
The order I proceeded to receive was completely wrong, I ordered quite a bit for my order.I then called the store and the guy that answered proceeded to try and tell me that they don’t do home delivery, trying to make me look silly. I had just tracked the delivery from their store.
He then transferred me to click and collect where a girl told me that the people gave the wrong bag to the delivery driver. She then proceeded to make me call a help line to try and get it sorted. The lady that answered told me she reassigned a driver for my order and it should be delivered in 30min – 1 hour.
I waited an hour and still no order, no updates, nothing. I called the help line again and she proceeded to transfer me to DoorDash with no explanation as to why.
I spent 3 hours trying to find out what’s went on and no one could help me.
We won’t be shopping with coles again.
3 months agoWent there early to do the shopping. Only the express (12 items max) register open with 7 people with baskets. Two people with carts not knowing where to go. Then they open one register for a cart as big as Mt Wellington. I had to go to drop my family at work so had to leave it there. Will see how Woolies go later.3 months agoWhen in Devonport this is the supermarket of my choice. The fresh fruit and veg produce is of a high standard..as is the deli and large variety of meat in fridges. Highly recommend.

a year agoAn extraordinary grocery experience.
I have been here several times before finally making a review. I just love Hill Street Grocer in Devonport, so much so that I even emailed them requesting that they open one in Ulverstone where I live!
Instantly walking in and being greeted by magnificent flowers sold in singles and in beautiful bouquets coupled with upmarket homewares like the adorable hug mugs and serving ware sets the scene. Then the cafe with chocolates, ready to go sandwiches, and the display of cookies on the counter, the buzz of coffee in the air just adds an extra flair.
The grocery side of the store is robust too, it’s like the IGA refused to be ordinary and went straight to extraordinary. They feature a lot of Tasmanian focused value added products and produce. There’s a huge selection of local produce and the most tender salad leaves I’ve had from Thirlstane Gardens. They have a whole selection of pre made cakes and savoury foods as well. We love the vegetarian lasagne, it is outstanding!
The best thing is that it’s a fully functional IGA too, so I can pick up regular things as well. It’s the best of all the worlds — the florist, the cafe, the bakery, the local high end deli, the lifestyle shop, and the reasonably priced IGA.
I can’t say enough about Hill Street Grocer. I feel like every IGA should take note on how to really create an incredible experience and follow suit, we’d all be better off for it.
Now if only they delivered to my area, I would happily choose them over Woolies. Until then every time I go to Devonport I’ll make a point to stop in.
2 weeks agoThe best deli food all types of salads and the usual. Fresh clean. Helpful staff. So much to choose from. Very expensive5 months agoWent here for a coffee but it’s like a little gourmet collective of boutique shops in one. Plastic Plastic Plastic!!
So much fresh produce wrapped in single use plastic destined for landfill!
Thanks for choking the world with plastic Woolies, you are a leading the way in non-sustainability and environmental destruction. Be proud, shareholders (sic).
Easy to find products and friendly deli staff. Having shelve stocking trolleys in Isles does congest Isles when a few people are trying to get similar items. Need more half trolleys for shoppers, perfect size for one person shop. Self service checkouts are quick. Could lessen the plastic usage in fruit n veg.
Love our Woolies home delivery. Drivers are so friendly and our orders are packed well and correct. Thanks Woolies
Good friendly & helpful staff. But they could have more cash rester open
it’s a great store, nice wide isles & it’s fully stocked
