The Pier, located in the centre of Cairns right on the waterfront is an excellent venue for a meal or cooling ale. Suitable for all over 18+ Attracts a younger crowns on Friday and Sunday Afternoons/ nights. They may even have live music on 1 or both of those days.

They have 3 pool tables inside and an outside deck for those who like to be in the fresh air. A dedicated smoking area is available.

Lots to see and do. Great for all ages especially young families . Free entertainment park, playgrounds and lagoon for swimming. Carpark handy. Close to shops and eateries. Kept very clean and tidy.

Dining at Dundee’s was absolutely perfect. The lovely menu catered for everyone. Amy was most helpful, polite and friendly. Will visit again when I next get to Cairns.

Pier was very nice, good tree lights, cool atmosphere, with a public fresh water swimming pool, merry-go-round and a good Esplanade sunset walk

  1. Food court , shopping centre, free car park for up to 3 hours. A Woolworths supermarket. BWS but can’t buy boxes of wine until 4pm . Some rule they have . Lots of variety of shops I found it funny how you could do your supermarket shopping, walk with your trolley around the shopping centre. In the the food courts we have a mixture of food from one of the delis it was delicious. Worth a visit if you want everything under one roof .

  2. Good variety of shops, including Coles and Woolworths, Target and Kmart, JB Hifi, EB Games, Connors, Best and Less, Jayjay’s and many many more. Has an above decent food court as well, including a variety outlets (KFC, McDonald’s, Subway, Sushi Hub, etc.)

  3. Cairns Central is the main shopping mall for Cairns.

Essentially a rectangle it houses shops, restaurants, banks, JP service, supermarkets, cinema and occasional small shows such as a petting zoo for children and small school holiday productions. Cairns train station is located directly next to it linked by walkways. Local buses also arrive and depart here.

Central Mall offers three levels of car parking and four entry points for cars. It’s easy to access by walking and wheelchairs too. It’s location is ideally situated being a 10 minute walk or 5 minute drive from the lagoon and Esplanade.

It’s bright and light, kept extremely clean and tidy by the hard working cleaning staff. Its absolutely spotless due to this team. It’s easy to walk around having thankfully two wide aisles and it’s very difficult to get lost! Signage is excellent and the toilets plentiful, generally well kept and located in sensible areas.

The diversity of shops is reasonable. It’s particularly aimed at 12-18 yo young women with a plethora of clothes shops catering to this age.

It’s eating area, both walking and seating availability, becomes full very quickly not helped by narrow walking routes between the main concourse and a major exit. Its usually extremely noisy too. Unnecessary music is played throughout the mall all day especially an issue when individual shops have their own. This cacophony of noise is extremely off putting for all the shoppers.

There are some seating available as well as a small playground on its 1st floor. The seating availability is limited and the owners should increase these.

Sadly at the time of writing, many excellent shops have closed over the years apparently due to high lease charges. The effect has been the quality and experience of shopping has certainly suffered.
