Lovely little museum with extremely high quality and informative exhibits. I was very excited to see a piece of the Endeavour Tree on display, as I work at a museum that has the rest of that very tree lol. Would love to visit again and hopefully get to chat more with staff, as it was a quiet day when I visited and it seemed that there weren’t many staff/volunteers on hand that day, so I didn’t want to take anyone away from their busy tasks.
Thoroughly enjoyed Cairns Museum! Engaging stories, easy to follow, and loved the fascinating biographies and facts. Plan for 1.5-2 hours to fully savor the experience and not miss any details or stories. Highly recommended!
We spent a couple of hours here, it was great to discover the history of Cairns.
You can get a great view of Cains Central from the verandah upstairs.
There was very informative history of Cairns and display in various ways such as sound recordings and videos
Very informative about the history of the city of Cairns. Lots of people stories on display which brings a personal feel, with the photos attached to the stories you almost feel like you are taken back to those times. I realise it is called the Cairns Museum therefore is about Cairns, but I was expecting a bit more about Cape York as a region, and perhaps something about the unique flora and fauna – there was hardly anything about the wildlife surrounding the Cairns area, apart from a small section about what animals would like to eat you here. Overall very happy with my 1.5 hour visit, would come back for sure.
